First of all, there are no clerics in Islam. Any Muslim who is educated about his religion could perform the rituals. It is not a profession, and should not be. The same apply on the leader of the mass prayer on Friday. Any Muslim can ascend the Pulpit (forum) and lead.

As for the prayer, Muslim can pray anywhere. If a mosque is available, then the prayer will be conducted there, if not, it can be conducted anywhere as long as the place is clean.

Clergy system, priesthood, monks, celibacy, etc. as is the case in Christianity, are not of Islam. Only one person conducts the retuals.

Just one imam (cleric) to lead the prayer.

The prayer is conducted with the dead person infront of the congregation and it is conducted outside the mosque, usually in the garden for the special place reserved for funeral prayers.

Edit: the position of an imaam can be done by anyone who is able and knowledgeable in religion..and it is therefore not limited to clergy like Aadel said.

However, governments have made sure that there is someone who does this fulltime and have allocated money for the payment of imaams and mosques in most islamic countries.

Just One Imam (A person who leads the Prayer). And as what most muslims replied, that the Imam can be anyone who knows how to lead the 'Salaat-Alal-Mayyit' - 'The Prayer over the Dead'

It is done by placing the Dead Body in front of the prayer. The Body should first be washed, perfumed and covered with a fine white Cloth. Then the Prayers are performed.

The Prayer includes Glorifying Almighty GOD, sending Peace Greetings over his Prophet, then praying for the Peace and salvation for the person who died and all humanity.

Note: It is also required to ask for the forgiveness of the sins of the Dead. NO intercession is required for this. Just a Plain prescense of the mind and asking Almighty GOD from the heart.

there are no clerics in islam any muslim can lead the prayer.

for the funeral prayers:

While performing funeral Prayer, the casket is placed in front of the Prayer-leader , who leads the worshippers in prayer.

Funeral Prayer consists of glorification and praise of Allah/god, benedictions on the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and prayers for the deceased as well as for the living.

Following the Prayer, the body is escorted to the graveyard. While accompanying the funeral, silence should be observed; it is considered a time for meditation on death and the transient nature of life.

and it is to be done in the mosque or home or any clean place as any salah.
