Hi. Linux is free. And just as good as Unix. Do a search for both and buy one if you want.

UNIX is not an application that can run inside another operating system like Windows or Mac OS X.


The versions of true UNIX are long gone(System V, Berkely's OS(Can't remember the name, sorry)).


Nowadays, it's all the operating systems that are based on UNIX: BSD, Linux, are some that come to mind.



If you would like to try UNIX I'd recommend taking a look at Linux distributions like Ubuntu, or Debian(More difficult to install).

LINUX REDHAT it is open source, you can download it for free on many sites.
google it....
