Pneumonia is a serious infection and/or inflammation of your lungs. The air sacs in the lungs fill with pus and other liquid. Oxygen has trouble reaching your blood. If there is too little oxygen in your blood, your body cells can't work properly. Because of this and spreading infection through the body pneumonia can cause death. People with a weakened immune system are more apt not to survive a bout of pneumonia, like those with cancer. There are at least 4 different types of pneumonia, be thankful that the hospital caught it and kept him in for treatment

Absolutely!!! I do not wish to discourage you and I'm sorry that your father is in such pain right now. But he made it to the hospital! And thats good! Some people wait too long because they don't believe that its as serious as it is. Any infection can be life threatening. Even sinus infections can be life threatening. If you let an infection go for too long it can spread to other parts of the body and cause death if not treated. I wish your father well!! Some say that the damage from disease is permanent. I totally disagree. Organs like your kidney and liver can repair themselves. once the source of the problem (in this case an infection) is removed the body can heal and recover. since your father is gonna be released it sounds like good news. If I where you I would recommend to your father to stay away from caffeine and other irritants for some time until the illness is totally put into check.

Of course you can die from it, but it probably won't affect the kidney(s).
You seee, he would die a slow, horrid, and utterly painful death, despite being in or receiving active medical treatment. Where one would eventually drown in thier own fluid.

Nothing to do with the kidney. Though, that baby suggestions sounds interesting.

Unfortunately he can die from it.
It's the #1 cause related to other illness. My father died from pneumonia after stoke and my grand mother and I even knew this one old Guy who used to live next door...they sent him home and he died 2 days later.
Prayers be with you.

well its not always fatal because of the medical advances of today, but it can be dangerous for elderly and those already sick. i obviously don't kno ur dad and his condition, nor do i kno enough about medicine for it to make any difference, but if he's in a hospital they're probably taking good care of him. good luck

It's very possible to die from pneumonia, the only cure is to eat a baby.
