lorazepam is ativan, and it is addictive. It also dopes you up, so you won't be so quick on your feet. you are better off getting counseling or joining toastmasters (a group to teach people how to give speeches) and practicing dealing with others. I am extremely shy, so shy that in fact, teachers thought I was mentally retarded (the term for it in those days) and put me in special learning groups & surprise!! I wasn't. What I did was to go into theater in school & debate and speech club. And that really really helped, and now no one can tell how shy and insecure I am around others. I still have great fear of speaking in groups, but not as bad, and no one can tell. It is a long term solution, but if you are an introvert, it is probably your personality and you will always be introverted. But you don't have to behave that way in social situations. Pills are not the answer unless you have one of the most extreme forms of social anxiety, to the point you won't leave your home. In my opinion.

Good luck!!

Dude, I get exactly the same way. Usually the things that help my mind not get so anxious also lessen my mental acuity (e.g. sleep deprivation, alcohol) which doesn't work for a job interview. The only advice I can suggest is to go to the interview with a full stomach. I mean eat as much as you can beforehand. I'm not sure why it works, but I'm way less anxious at job interviews when I do this. Try it out.

Lorazepam has an almost-immediate effect on you. It calms you down and allows you to sleep. However, in long term, lorazepam may cause memory loss. So i'd advise you not to rely too much on it.

Perhaps you should see a counsellor/psychiatrist. A reliable psychiatrist would be able to prescribe drugs (if need be) which would not have any negative side effects.

They may help, but you need a better drug to help with the social anxiety disorder. Lorazepam is more for emergency panic attacks. Ask your doctor about your options.

I use clamazepam (Klonopin) which works moderately well. But I can tell you from years of using virtually every anti anxiety medication on the market that these pills are not as effective as they used to be. Manufacturers have found way (like with all products) to make them cheaper, and thus less effective than before.

I believe that Lorazepam is Ativan--which is used for anxiety. You should at least go to your general MD to be diagnosed. He or she can let you know if you need to see a shrink--sometimes the general MD will give you the meds based on his diagnosis. If you do get meds, you should also look into therapy--which can help you discover why you have this anxiety.

lorazepams are not good for social anxiety..all it will do is make you high..you will get a serious buzz..

It is intended for use for people who have aggressive tendencies and are schizophrenic..for example..an Alzheimer's patient who is not in control of their behaviors..and is for use as a short term sedative/sleeping pill..

if you are trying to hurt others, they will give it to you to knock you out..to put it in everyday terminology...

there are medications for social anxiety that are not strong sedatives..

lorazepams are one of the highest abused medications used as a street drug, regardless of what excuse your friend has given you..he is probably addicted and has found a way to con a doctor out of them...if you ask a doctor for them for anxiety, they will send you out the door without anything.. Understand what I'm trying to explain..
I do hope so...

there are antidepressants that are used to treat social anxiety. Some examples are Zoloft, Paxil, and Prozac. Your doctor is the best person to discuss this with.
