This protesting and speaking out just makes the troops uncertain about their cause and causes them to make mistakes and troops die when mistakes are made. I assert that these protests have caused the loss of life indirectly. Also, Cindy Sheehan's son must be so ashamed of her. I would be if my mother was acting like such a hysterical shrew.

They seem to think that we (the soldiers) either don't know what's best for us and the country, or that we have no choice but to enlist. Both of these reasons are false for me and many of my friends, but I can't speak for absolutely EVERY soldier in the Army. They also, like anyone who wants to win an election, will say whatever it takes to get more votes. Speaking as someone who has been to Iraq, I know that we are doing good over there. It doesn't matter that the country is not progressing as fast as a bag of popcorn cooking in a microwave oven. The point is that lives are being saved, American civilians are safer because we're the easier target for terrorists, and the people ARE coming around.

As a "troop" who just got out of the military, I will have to disagree with you. I was never demoralized by the liberals. If anything, I was more demoralized by the conservatives. By the choices that were made by our leadership. Our country has grown up a lot since Vietnam. I never felt hatred directed at me as a soldier, because of the uniform that I wore. I didn't have people spit on me and call me a "baby killer." Nearly stranger that approached me, democrat or republican, told me the same thing, and that was "Thank you for serving our country, and I hope you don't get shipped out to Iraq."

I actually laughed when I read the part about the troops becoming uncertain from the protests and that they make mistakes and die because of this. The fact that you think that soldiers in the middle of a firefight are going to pause to think, "wow, all those protesters might have a point, this war is unjustified," cracks me up. When people are trying to kill you, in that instant, they become the enemy. You can throw the politics the side, it is survival at that point. To suggest that our troops are becoming incompetent because of news reports is ridiculous. They have a mission, they will carry it out, whether they voted for Bush or Kerry. Is that such a hard concept to grasp?

I never made mistakes on the job because I was worried about Cindy Sheehan. That is absurd. I feel sorry for her loss, but don't agree with the way she is handling it. Her son probably wouldn't have liked it either, but who are you to judge her? Have you lost a son to the war? I think that she could probably be more effective if she acted differently, but one thing is for sure, she didn't demoralize the troops and cause them to make mistakes.

You are giving the liberals and the press too much credit. Soldiers shrug most of the reports off. They do their job, they leave the politicking to the higher ups and the media. They hold convictions, but they don't let it get in the way of their duties.

A better question might by why are you still in America if you support the war so much. Go and enlist, super patriot. As Americans we have a right to protest what we choose. When did following the Constitution become unamerican? What has caused a loss of life are the lies bush told to start this war and his inability to do the right thing and bring the troops home. Bush has all the blood on his hands. Deal with that.

I'm a moderate. I'm the guy who actually decides elections. I'm the guy that left you at the alter in the midterms for the crap your president has pulled over the last six years.

You are pushing people like me further to the left because you can't admit when your guy is f*cked up. Picking on a woman who is doing what she thinks is right in the name of her dead son doesn't endear you to the center. Telling people that they are somehow not patriotic or disrespecting of the troops because they disagree with the cause or the mission is doing nothing to help your cause. It's people on the right who are always peaved off about something (even when you have the house, senate, whitehouse and have begun to appoint like minded judges) that force people like me to vote for John Kerry (who we can all agree would've been a crappy president).

Here's what I'm hoping you will understand because I've got a lot more in common with you than the left. You need to tone it down. You need to quit pushing people like me away. If you're not careful you're going to end up in the same position as the dems a few years ago (you know, making a career out of getting your @ss handed to you in every election). Believe me when I say to you that no one really wants that.

I support our troops. I'm grateful for their sacrifice. I feel more secure knowing that if my freedom were in legitimate peril they would be willing to do what is necessary. I was with you in the beginning. But I can read. I can think for myself. And I'm just not with you today. Your president is f*cked up. Let's all agree, get our guys home safely and do what we can to get some common sense back into government in 2008.

Because when they say they are supporting the troops they are under the impression the troops dont belong were they are, So while supporting what they think the troops SHOULD be doing, they protest what the government has the troops actually doing.

I think it's important to realize that "Support our troops" is a motto created by war supporters, and a very tricky device to control the public. To support the troops, you must support the war.
It might be ok to say, "I don't support the war," but NO ONE can get away with saying "I don't support our troops." That's like saying you hope our soldiers die.

Do you see how sneaky this motto is?

And here's the topper: By bickering about the troops, we don't talk about the important thing -- namely, why the war shouldn't be fought at all.

Hay squirt that womans son died for you!!! How dare you not show her the respect she is due!!!! You might not like her politics, and there is nothing wrong with that, but she damn sure has earned the respect of every American.

Now, to answer your question;
Can you tell me in what way supporting the improper use of our military personnel is being supportive???
Where did you ever get the idea that fighting a war is a conservative philosophy??? I would suggest you do a little research, you might be surprised to learn that WAR IS A LIBERAL PHILOSOPHY!!!!!
WW II President F.D.R. a democrat
Korea President Truman a democrat
Vietnam President Kennedy a democrat
Bosnia President Clinton a democrat

Good Conservative Republican Presidents have always sought out alternative solutions to wars.

how dare you even be such a rude pompas uncaring as* i have family in Iraq i love them and support them we send packages fulled with common items they consider luxuries at this point my family that is hopelessly stuck in Iraq are proud that we oppose this unjust war and so are 90% of their fellow soldiers these troops have no cause there folling orders which is what they are to do i have yet to receive a letter from any of them stating any thing other than their misery and desire to return home so unless you've been there or are praying every minute of every day for some of your family members to come home alive shut up ..troops are dieing because they were sent there under false pretenses and lies told to the American people. and i am sure that Cindy's son is proud of how brave she is to stand before tons of people who oppose her and what she stands for she is just as brave as he was to go off and join the military shame on you for speaking ill of this brave young man who died for an unjust cause.

I fully support our troops. I want them all home safe and healthy. The ones who are in Iraq is fighting a war that was started because of the greed of our ruling familes, the Bush/Cheney dynasties. We had no business going into Iraq. PERIOD.

Unlike ceratin presidents I can mention, they are trying to get the troops OUT of harm's way. Unfortunately, neither conservatives nor liberals are friggin sane enough to do anything effectively. And then there are the moderates, just sitting there doing nothing. Haha, man. Sometimes I want to kill myself.
