I've read so many reviews on DVD recorders and it seems that most say the DVDs can't be played on other players except the one it was copied on. Also, most of my VHS tapes are 6 hours long. Is this going to be a problem? I've never copied to a DVD so as you can tell, I need help!

Since you're transfer your home videos to dvds, you won't have any problem with the copy-protection circuitry built-in of the dvd recorder. Some good brands of recorder are Toshiba,Pioneer,JVC,LiteOn. Most recorders can record up to 10 hrs on a single dvd so you won't have a problem there but the video quality isn't going to be very good.

your biggest problem is that most of the vhs tapes also have a coding on them to prevent copying. I bought a dvd recorder for the same reason and found out the hard way. you are better off getting a burner for your computer and upgrading it to be able to run the vcr into it and burn the tapes off that way. then you can download programs that will allow you to break the codes.
