I was pretty chubby in middle school, but I wanted to participate anyway. I did some long distance running, but surprisingly no one laughed at me.

At one meet, I was way back in last place, but people were cheering me on so that I wouldn't give up and I actually finished it.

When I lost weight, I noticed other big guys. Goalies, heavy weight wrestlers, and American football. As long as they did their job, they were treated like everyone else.

One "obese" guard made a particularly good tackle, and was congratulated for it.

I don't remember any teasing in relation to the sports. Actually, being on the same team seems to make one immune to criticism that one might face elsewhere.

That's for boys though, I've heard girls say some pretty cruel things to each other.
