Hi there. Since you are perceived as flock leader, act enthusiastic around the bird. Offer him his favorite treat by patiently holding the treat in your hand next to the cage. Birds respond well to baby talk. The talk we use when talking to small children. Once he takes the treat with him in the cage and you on the outside, do this everyday for a few days. Open his cage door and offer him his favorite treat. Let him come to you. This will take awhile. I guess being eager to see him will in turn make him eager to see you. Can this bird be handled yet? Have a tweet year.

if you keep your parakeet separated from other birds he will tend to like you more so. To get him to know you, blow gently in his face. He will recognize your scent. Also, when handling your bird spit on your finger. Instead of biting your finger he will .... well kind of kiss it. This really works. I have never been biten. I have a love bird. I used to have a parakeet.

Depends really, you should spend a lot of time with your parakeet. A lot of birds aren't really sociable with humans, parrots would be a more suitable bird if you expected one that wanted lots of human contact. But I'd suggest lots of affection, spending lots of time holding the bird.

just talk to them because if you talk to them then they'll know the sound of your voice and might feel more at ease when your around and not as scared.
