Electronic muscle stimulation or a tens unit. They are fairly cheap and are good to have around the house for emergencies like these. If you don't have access to one then have someone deep message your neck after a hot shower. It is important that it be moist heat from hot wet towels or hot shower. A heating pad really does not penetrate it only heats the skin. It will still take a few days but the more you work it the faster the muscle will get back in shape.

use a heating pad the ralax the muscles. then slowly turn the head in the direction that hurts the most a few times. if possible don't expose your neck to cold air. cover it up before you go out. keep it warm as possible.

My chiropractor always says "ice and Advil are your friends" -- ice it off and on and take Advil to help the pain and relax the muscles. If that doesn't help in a day or two I'd suggest either a regular doctor or a chiropractor.

Rest the neck: do not rub. Some specific analgesic recommended, with mild tranquiliser. Back to normal in just 24 hrs.

usually a heat pad takes the pain away. sometimes you just have to wait a few days and it will go away.
