Whenever I do situps, THIS part of my back aches, and feels weird:
(the red dot)


And just this morning, for a minute or two, the blue part was where it was hurting, but this was the bones.

After the red part started hurting, I began to put a cushion under whenever doing situps. And I've been sleeping a mattress the last few weeks :p

You might be doing the situps incorrectly, but I would recommend that you do some other kind of core strenghtening exercises. The part that hurts (red dot) is the most vulnerable spot on your back (sacroiliac). A lot of nerves go through this part of your back and travel up and down your back and legs. It sounds like you are pinching the nerve. Stop doing the situps.
