I have been looking into getting laminate floors for my entire house. It will not scratch, is easy to clean, comes in a variety of colors/patterns/textures, and it is not very expensive. I currently have hard wood floors and I would not recommend them because they scratch easily.

I have 4 dogs-2 labs, a springer, and a yorkie. I have a product made by Earthscapes. Its a textured laminate that comes in different types/patterns. I had it installed in my entire house this summer, and it is the best. It is called a floating floor, because it expands and contracts so that it doesn't tear, gouge, rip or scratch. I have a wood pattern in my living room and hall, and 2 different types of the granite patterns in my kitchen and bathroom. Both are textured, the wood looks like wood, it has grain. It looks just as good as the day I put it in, and with 4 dogs that are in and out all day long, that saying alot. Its also super easy to clean and it comes with a 20 year warrenty.

If it has to be permanent hard floor. Try a inexpensive short napped rug, that can be thrown away or cleaned. All our 4-leggers have accidents. The smell or stains aren't always easy to remove. I don't care what anyone says, it comes with the territory. Rugs do slide but, we can always move them back.

as long as they potty outside any flooring should be fine. i'd say no to carpet just because i find this awful for in a kitchen, i prefer the wood laminate i just had installed. but any type of vinyl, laminate or tile which you normally find in a kitchen should be fine. if they potty in the kitchen, then teach them to go outside.

No matter what you do, the little dickens will throw up, defacate because the storms are brewing, and when you have steak, they will pretend they have never done anything wrong. Welcome to the hierarchy. One piece of advice, rub their noses in anything they urinate in is of no use. Get a machine that makes noise and removes the scent entirely and they think you are a God. Take care of the little beings.
