i hate it when my cat bites me whenever i try to pet her even if she was the one who came up to me for some petting. i have become harsh to her before but i overcame that already, eventually accepting the fact that she bites. but just a few minutes ago, she bit again and it got me so angry that i kicker her. im feeling so guilty now.. i know it was wrong.. and i feel sorry for it..

before i wanted to get a new cat, one that i could start all over with, but i've loved my cat too much to let her go.. what should i do? please help.. i would never let her go..

here's what i think with your first answers
spraybottle - maybe she won't let her pet her anymore
early harshness - well she sleeps by my side always
killing the cat - NEVER, as i've said i already love her, might as well do that to you

i hope she sleeps beside still tonight... i feel so guilty

Put bitter apple spray on your hands, so when she bites she gets a mouth full of that. It will help. Also, try using the old squirt bottle trick. Squirt her in the mouth when she tries to bite you...she should get tired of being wet.

Biting is, oddly enough, a part of play to cats. Mine do it all the time. I'll be petting one and they will turn around, maybe head-butt my hand and begin to nip, and sometimes bite hard. It's just play to them. Sometimes I'll say "No" and take my hand away, or I may "bop" them on the nose.
I imagine she will sleep with you. Animals are far more forgiving of us than we are of others.
Since this has happened, maybe think about how to handle the situation when she bites you next time - because there probably will be a next time. If you're prepared, you may feel like you can respond in a more controlled manner.
Watch her behavior for the next day or so to make sure she's OK, and love her. Give her extra time and attention and treats.
She'll be by your side in no time.

Keep a fly swatter on hand and every time she bites you smack her, not hard, just swinging it at her lets her know that you are mad. Keep doing this till she quits, my cat did this for a couple of years and I won't tell you how many times I gave her the boot but when I started using the fly swatter after a few months she quit biting. My cat is now 14 years old, still a mean cat but she does not bit she knows better...

My 9 yr ld used to do that - bite and claw me - when he was younger (1 to 2 years old). Sometimes they were just little "love nites" but at other times, he would actually draw blood. One of the answers you got here is that some cats just get "overwhelmed" with good feelings when they are petted and they bite. That is true. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that as the cat matures, she will tend to bite and claw less and less. My cat stopped biting me after he turned 2. And becuase I do not encourage rough kitty games with my hands, he does not claw me anymore except by accident. So I try to keep his claws trimmed.

Long and shor of it is DON'T DESPAIR. Your cat will eventually stop the bad behavior. And don't hit her. Usually a loud "Owwww!" or "Yay yay!" will suffice. When you hit your cat, all you will be teaching her is to avoid coming near you - the human with unpredictable melt-down behavior!

But we all learn by our mistakes. If you keep feeding her, she'll come around.

wow. yea i get attached to my cats too. my cat cupcake is very lovable though and just lays on top of you and purrs so loud. some cats are frisky and more hyper.

your cat probably bites you because shes using it as self defense beacsue you used to hit her. show her more love. and i dont know if you talk to your cat or anyhting but i do. and i used to tell her to never bite the hand that feeds her. ad corny as it is she doesnt bite like she used to.

or another thing may be the shes facing you to be pet and you scratch or pet her back or put your hand where she doesnt want to be pet or is uncomfortable with becasue of her postioning. this was the most common to me. and shed nibble at me like what are you doing with your hand there its irritating me.

so good luck and use these techniques and hopefully she will learn. :) - Emily

I completely understand the anger reflex. I used to do worse unfortunately to mine before I fixed "my" problem. Anyway I have to strongly agree with MissKnight and Emily D. Your cat may also not be wanting to be petted, but just want's to mark you as hers, which is what they do when they rub. Whatever you do, don't hit or even give the allusion of hitting. That will just reinforce the protection/retailation instinct. I have a cat that is kind of like yours. It has taken patience and letting him make all the moves untill he feels confident and safe with me. It sounds like she needs time to feel secure enought to know you won't strike at her. Use the bitter apple or if you want the cheeper way to go, you can use lemon juice. (don't delete it with water, use it straight)

Yeah, that's happened with me and my cat. Mine has gotten better since I throw her outside when she bites me. We do live in the country, though.
