The metal shavings go down into the skin and slowly start the infection process. I had to have surgery on my thumb because of raw metals. The doctor said to soak my hands in dish soap every two hours for 15 minutes and the infection would go away. That worked. As soon as you feel that infection is setting in, start soaking.

It's possible if you're handing something like mercury which can be absorb into the blood. But for other heavy metals like lead, you really need to be exposed to it for a long time and a heavy dose. But with electronics, I doubt that there's enough lead to cause you any damage.
