i want to get in shape for cross country again, my coach said to run about 3 hours a week, but i dont have the money to join a gym, or buy a tredmil, and the weather is bad. it is really hard and cold to run on snow and ice, so is there any other workouts i could do to help me get back in shape? i'd rather do something out side, but i'll do a workout inside if i have to...

Jumping rope is much harder than running, especially if you've never done it. It allows you to work out in one spot so all you have to do is clear a spot. It's a great work out when running isn't an option. Indoor exercise is better than no exercise. Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds, TurboJam, Tae Bo, etc. are good alternatives.

Snow shoes are are great way to get a workout. That and cross country skis. You will work up the heat to keep warm and burn your calories. It is a great way to get exercise. Choose a beautiful place to take a 'hike' in the snow.
Good luck!
