What is the soul, what is the spirit? How do we actually know it is there for we, I, do not have any evidence of any spirit world. We feel and we sense but how can I know where is my brain biochemistry and my predetermined mind end and true spirit starts? People talk too much about energy, the aura, PES, quantum phisics and ghost stories yet the answer is not quite clear. For it is there, how can we know?Where it is? For it is there, why, how, what for,? I do want to find The Divine

the only way is to practice meditation with your own . if you do this in a few months you be sure that there is a a soul. you have to practice for one hour at least a day . and after 6 months you would be able to see your aura or that i call the industry surround you but you wouldn't see it clearly in light so you have to sit calm and practice in a dark room but not so dark between dark and lightened and while you practice open your eyes for a seconds you will see a light dots moves around you it is look like the stars in the sky . and if you have any question email me on stanely@mashy.com .

Well don't listen to anyone who uses quantum physics (read 'in search of schrödinger's cat') to claim supernatural stuff is real, there's nothing airy-fairy about quantum. Its the science of the subatomic. Someone once said to me in a debate 'hasn't quantum physics proved god exists?' I almost burst a blood vessel. If anything, the uncertainty principle places severe limits on an 'omniscient' god but that's a digression.

I don't think we do have souls. I consider the thinking self-aware 'me' to be MY consciousness working in MY body. It doesnt make sense to call it a soul - my personality isnt me, I'm this physical form.

Maybe that sounds too materialistic for some people but hey, that's the truth. I believe consciousness is an emergent phenomenon. Primitive people used to posit the existence of souls to explain thought and emotion - but since we now know they're part of a physical brain why are people still clinging to that myth?

- Sorry Lend322, but that's only a reason to WISH we had immortal souls. Reality is what is, not what we wish it was.**

I read an Indian book once that likened the soul to the electricity in a microphone.

He suggested the body was inert without the soul.

It seems like a good explanation.

I am sure the soul and the conscience are connected.
You know if something is OK or not. Your inner voice tells you.

When you have had a tough time and finally find a space to stop and think, you, your soul feels rested.

Your soul is your inner being.

The main reason I know we have a soul and a spirit is because when you look at the animal world, they do not worship anything or anybody. We, on the other hand have an innate desire to worship something or somebody, whether it be money, power, mythological gods, luxury, or Allah, or God. That is built right in us by our creator. We were made in God's image, and He is a Spirit, The Holy Spirit, and He covets our worship more than anything else. That's why we seem to want to worship in some fashion. To find the Divine, or God's Son, Jesus Christ, you need to read the Bible. That is the only source. I will not lie to you. That's my answer.

The existence of a spirit/soul necessitates the existence of a real that is on a different dimension than ours.

In physics, the thought of different dimensions is still a theory but not one without much support. Especially those that have to do with black holes and such.

As for going about finding it. You cant.

The problem is, once you go upto the 4th dimension, your body stops being 3rd dimensional, logically speaking, you would be dead. And the dead do not come back to life my friend. So youd be stuck at the other side forever.

Heres an altogether more boggling thought tho :)

we cant even prove this world is real, how do you think we can prove the other side?

I truly believe what Jehovah's Witnesses teach... and I believed it BEFORE I began to study the Bible with them: that you don't HAVE a soul that survives death. You ARE a living soul, and when you die, you are just dead until the resurrection.
As for clarity in all of this, I hope you find it! I have found peace, but not necessarily clarity. Faith is the belief that something is truth that cannot be PROVEN as truth, and I have faith that there is a Divine Being, that His name is Jehovah, that He created mankind to live here on earth in perfection, and that He sent His Son to make up for the mistake that our orginal parents made. This faith gives me peace, even if being human and imperfect, I am sometimes not clear on who, what, or why.
I AM a soul, and when I die, I will go back to God's memory, in much the same way that I remember my mother and father. Their laugh, the color of their eyes, their fears... God remembers all of this and more. At resurrection, if God reads my heart and finds favor with me, then I will be resurrected.

I have heard some scientific evidence that points out that the mind is not large enough and cannot possible account for all of the thought processes that occur within humans. I don't know if it is true. If you want to find the Divine I would suggest the Bible. I don't have much proof for you but I believe Jesus is the Divine who came to Earth so we might know Him. If you have any questions you can message me through my yahoo answers profile. I would love to offer any help I can.

There might be one more thing that would point us to the existence of a soul: the fear of death and the desire to see life beyond the grave. Where did that desire come from?

intangible - any intangible feeling that you have than cannot be explained in normal terms can be said to be a nonordinary state of consciousness - so spirit is that which is before us, laying the foundation for all possibilities, until they become one, tangible reality

I cannot explain it. I think that either you feel it or maybe you don't. I know that I have a soul who has lived many lives. For me, I have always felt it.

A belief in God is not necessary to have a soul in my opinion.
