As between a 5.1 MP camera and CS2 Photoshop you should be able to make a stunning picture. The picture on a CD doesn't have to be great just show what you want it to show, namely yourself.................

1. Get a tripod (there are cheap ones at Walmart).
2. Set camera to a timer exposure mode, or whatever it's called. In other words, set it so that it snaps the picture 10 or so seconds after you press the shutter release.
3. Attach camera to tripod and find a nice spot outside late in the day, when the light is most dramatic. Take a few test shots and imagine yourself standing there in the picture. Consider your posture, attire, any instruments, etc. Don't make the scene too "busy" with distracting elements. Leave some space for the words on the cover.
4. The problem with many shots like this is that you want to be in focus, but often the camera selects a point that isn't in focus. One way to solve this would be to have someone else standing behind the camera, checking the test shots to make sure you are in focus. Consider not using a flash.
5. Press shutter button, smile. Or don't smile. Maybe you want to look serious.

5.1mp is just fine for something the size of a CD. Come up with a vision. Find the light. Create the look. Make an interesting composition. Tell a message. (Study and look at pop, alternative, rock, etc CDs and get some ideas.)

The brain in your head makes the picture, NOT the brain in the camera.
