There is no "easy" way, but I think there is a straight-forward and effective way.
1.) Commit to some kind of exercise (something that makes you sweat), preferably for at least 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week. Take the Sunday off (or any one day that you wish, for that matter).
2.) Commit to CONSISTENTLY eating less calories each and every day. Do not have one of those "reward" days where you allow yourself to eat anything you want. All that does is reward your body (by satisfying slight cravings) for eating excessively, and makes it psychologically difficult to revert to the low-calorie schedule the very following day.
Ideally, you should figure out your resting metabolism (calories your body burns on a regular day, without exercise)... But the only ways to do this is get professional tests done, or experiment by setting a certain amount of calories that you eat per day (say, 2500), and then after a week of consuming this amount every day (and not engaging in heavy exercise), check your weight. If your weight is within a pound (+ or -) of what it was the previous week, then whatever amount of daily calories you've been consuming is approximately your resting metabolism rate.
BUT, I just recommend saving yourself the trouble and sticking to 2000cal/day if you're a guy or 1400cal/day if you're a lady.
3.) Keep track of calories. This is extremely important and if not done, then your calories can be all over the place without you even realizing it... For example, peanut butter is considered a good diet foot because it is nutritious and has good fat. It is often recommended to eat a tablespoon of peanut butter a day. Well, the problem is that peanut butter is delicious and when on a low-calorie diet, it's easy to just give in a little bit and scoop up 4 tablespoons of peanut butter instead of 1! Well... That's about an extra 300 calories! (Lol, this is a true story for me. I actually completely eliminated peanut butter from my diet because I would always overeat it). So, COUNT CALORIES.
4.) Commit to this program, or any other sensible program that you choose. Sometimes, the two hours after exercise, you'll overdrink water from the thirst you feel and then get on the scale and find out that you're suddenly 1 pound heavier. Not to panic. This is not magic, it's extra water. Due to the processes of the body, sometimes you might look "thinner" in the mirror, at other times "floppier". Again, not to panic. Water accumulationg after sleep can be the result, or after running, your upper-body muscles will become less visible since all the blood will be in your legs, and you may think that you gained weight since your body doesn't have the definition it had just the previous day! Point is, just commit and trust in what you are doing because it is very logical, biologically-fool-proof, and effective.
I can tell you from experience that this works. I wasn't really out of shape in any way, but I was at 13% body fat and I wanted to be at 8% to perform better in the basketball league I play in. I commited and am now at 9%, after 3 months. 13% isn't easy to cut down on, so if you are starting at a higher %, you will have an easier time, initially.
Just remember that sometimes you might think it's not working, but commit for a period of time (say, 4 months), and you will certainly see results. I can't say that it is "very difficult" to lose weight. The difficulty will likely be in overcoming the doubts when you aren't sure if what you are doing is working. The cravings aren't that bad at 2000cals/day.

One way that most people forget about is water retention. If you drink more water daily, your body will stop hanging on to the water it has and you will lose all that weight automatically. The reason you have water retention is because your body is clinging to what water it can get. If you drink more water every day, your body will say, "Oh, we're getting enough water, now" and it will begin to release quite a bit of it trapped in your body from all over and suddenly you will notice you are looking leaner. Check this out and you will find I am on to something. Yes, it is generally unknown, but yes, it really does help you to lose weight. And there must be 5,000 other ways, all of them probably will be listed here in a few minutes, in 76 answers by people who care about such things, just like you and I do.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.
I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.
It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.
Get started today!

A proper diet is the best way to lose weight naturally and keep it off. You have to eat a varied adequate and balanced diet. Your body needs all kinds of food to function properly including fat in smaller quantities though. Your body needs the nutrients and vitamins in fruits and vegetables the most, that is what you should eat the most of (at least 5 servings a day). You also need protein, and a little fat. Reduce your intake of sweets, fried food and foods that contain a lot of fat. Don't drink too many alcoholic beverages or soft drinks (they have a lot of calories). Don't go to sleep right after you eat. And finally exercise at least 3 to 4 days a week for about 45 minutes.Good luck. You can also get more information about nutrition from this site:

Oh yes, get a divorce. If you rwife kicks you out, you can lose 2 stones int he next 6 months.
Dysentry is a good option. Or get a huge mortgage, and you'll NEVER put on weight.
The most effective of all I found was to get a "final written warning " from my employer. I lost 1 and a half stones in 6 weeks once by this method.

if it were easy and effective, we'd already all know the answer to it, and we'd all be thin :)
change your eating habits, and go for a brisk 15--30 minute walk daily. once you're used to this, challenge yourself further... by walking for 45-1hr daily, and adding weights 2 or 3 times a week... and changing something else from your eating habits.....
do a gradual change, you'll be more likely to stick with a lifestyle change rather than a diet. Change one thing at a time.. when you succeed at that one thing, move on to another.
good luck... and if you find the answer, be kind and e-mail me :)

CBM is right.
You need to change your lifestyle and not fall victim to the fad diets. Start making better choices. If you like salads try some basalmic vinaigrette dressing. It tastes good and is much better than those "fat free" dressings which aren't even good for you. Grilled chicken and fish are good. Eat lean meats lots of fruits and veggies and drink a lot of water. Walking is good exercise and it is easy and cheap. These suggestions might take longer to see results but they will be much more permanent. It is also important to treat yourself. If you love cheesecake don't swear it off and never eat it again. You will just end up binging eventually. Eat a little bit of the "junk" foods that you enjoy but don't go overboard. Good Luck I wish you success!

Nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Salt has no calories but makes you fat and burning more calories does not help this fatness.
Find out about fastest way to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad fats, water retention and secret trick used by models to flatten their tummy before an event. Reading a book will take you hours but the information on a post, taking minutes to read, is not enough. The webpage below has just enough to know what you need to know. Links page has gov. Yes there is.
For steady and continous weight loss, try this, it works! There's four parts to it! And QED (quite easily done). First, increase activity e.g. use stairs not elevator. Second, eat less. This way you don't have to change your diet. Eat the same foods you usually eat, but less. Use a smaller plate, never finish your meal, etc. Third, drink lots of water. Fourth, listen to your body, if you feel hungry, eat something, if you do not feel hungry, eat nothing. Only eat when you are hungry. do not eat just because there's food around. But. never starve yourself, this will only reduce your metabolic rate.
