In May or June I am thinking of purchasing a 2007 Shelby GT500. I am waiting for the high prices to go down a bit.

But will I need to contact my local dealer and order one months or weeks in advance? How does that process work?

I sell Fords. My dealership has already sold all 3 Shelby's that we were allocated.
You probably could still find a dealer that hasn't used their allocation, but that won't be easy. Waiting for prices to go down?
That probably will be a very, very, very long wait.
Currently you can bid on a new one on e-bay. Some dealers used their allocation by ordering units for stock (not a special order like you're thinking). After receiving the vehicle, they then proceed to auction them off. They are currently selling anywhere from $12,000-$30,000 over the manufacturers suggested retail value.
So if you are serious about buying one, you need to start looking NOW.....also you are talking serious money.
I could help you find a dealer (I have access to all Ford dealers in the U.S) however this is not an easy task & dealers are not going to negotiate. So if you are serious & have the funds, you can contact me.
If not, please do not contact me because I only get paid when I sell a car, not when somebody else sells a car.
I'm not trying to be mean, it's just the way it is.

The Shelby GT500s are special editions so there's a wait list. If you're looking for prices to go down, you'll probably be buying an '08 since there is less collector value in the second year of production. Nonetheless, you need to get on that buyers list ASAP. Try small town dealers, they may only have one, but there might be a shorter list of buyers.

If you are thinking about buying one then, you are kind of too late to be ordering now... Most orders for the cars were made months ago are just delivering now.

Most dealers were allowed to order one and either the dealer has already sold it or traded the allocation to another dealer..... Very rare will you find a dealer able to order one now.. espcially if you don't want to pay money (as the cars will be harder to come up with then as it is a low production car on purpose)

Contact a Ford dealer now.. be ready to put down a sizeable downpayment and hope you can get the car.

Best dealers to try is smaller dealers First.....

Nice dream. First I would check on insurance. With your age not known it might not be the smartest car to get. If parents will be footing the insurance bill and you are anywhere from 25 and down age wise, you might have your feelings hurt real quick by just the cost to insure it.

If you come from mountains of money Hey get 1. I had one of the older 500 Shelby's,was a rough riding, neck jerking, girl grabbing ,eye catcher.

I think they are all spoken for, but you have another option, you can go buy a GT off the lot and then have it converted into a Shelby, they even do it to the non GT six. Some dealers also sell the Roush or even Foose models :)

Go in, tell them you want to order it, and the specs you want, agree on a price, give them a deposit, wait a few months, and then enjoy!

I'd call the dealer and ask-- but from what I hear from my car crazy hubby, there is a waiting list for it.

When you do get it, ENJOY!!
