Cats are nocturnal animals. Has this cat been allowed to go outside at night in the past? If so, it's a hard habit to break, which is why I only have indoor cats. How long has it been since she was spayed? It takes time for the hormones to get out of the system. I doubt you can give her a sedative, but you could call the vet in the a.m. and find out. My cat insists on being fed at 5 a.m. on the dot which is fine because I get up at 5. Once in a while she forgets to look at the clock (LOL) and wakes me up at 4 a.m. I keep a water bottle by the bed, and one squirt reminds her to wait. Try squirting the cat with warm water - this is a great deterrent to bad cat behavior and it doesn't take them long to learn. Sweet dreams!

Annoying isn't it? And just when you think Dogs are a pain at night.

Don't worry, it will stop eventually. First thing you would like to do is check with a vet. Your cat has changed behavor patterns and there could be a medical reason why. She could be trying to tell you something is wrong and it happens at night. have her checked out as soon as you can.

Then, look at what is going on in the evening. Your tired and in bed, the house is all quite and there is nothing for her to do. It is not like she is saying, "GREAT, THE HUMANS ARE ASLEEP! TIME TO CATCH UP ON MY SOAPS AND READING". She is bored and would like to do something.

Get a toy that will entertain her in the evening. Sharper image had a great batter operated "CAT TOY" that is activated by sensor and remote control. My cats love it! I here them BAT it all night long. I use it when I am cooking too. They chase after the little robotic mouse and I get to set the table with out stepping on them.

Another great way to gettign your cat your on your schedule is OVER ACTIVE PLAYTIME! Dedicate a1/2 an hour or more each night before bed. Cat Nip will also help. After the playtime, fill her up with a great meal. A can of cat food, maybe even turkey, will knock her kitty butt out!

When all else fails and you really are at your wits end. She might need a housemate. You do not have to get another cat, Fish, small animals and birds also provide an ENOURMOUS amount of entertainment.

My cats Oliver & Emma have pet mice called "Lavern & Shirley". Or "CAT TV" as we like to call them. The mice are from a pet shop and LOVE attention. The cats sit and watch them every time the run the wheel. Since the mice are nocternal, the "CAT TV" runs all night. The Mice are safe in their cage and REALLY enjoy the attention from the cats. I know, sounds like a cartoon.. but it is true! The Mice run up to the end of the cage each time the Cats eneter the room.

Good Luck. I hope your kitty stops soon and you can enjoy a quiet nights sleep.

Depending on how long this has been goin on, there may be something wrong or bothering your cat. My best advice is to keep a close eye on her and watch for any changes in her stool or her eating habits. I wouldn't try giving her anything for it unless it's prescribed by your vet. I mean I have an old aged dog that has trouble sleeping at night simply because she is old and we sometimes give her one Benedryl and an Asprin before bed, but you have to understand the weight difference from a dog to a cat. Giving such a small animal such as a cat something from home could prove fatal. I hope you get this problem worked out, I wish you the best :).

My cats howl at night too. she might just be hungry, thirsty, bored, or lonely. Try leaving food and water out ALL night. Buy her toys, Maby...for loneliness well all you can do for that is get her a friend. Cats are'nt hard to take care of and most get along. If you get a male he'll try to mate with the female. But with females...I honestly had never had two females now that I think of it. But I have seen my cat get jelous of a stray we once took care of. Uhm In my experience two males, or a female and male are best, females get jellous. Hope this helps.

Instead of drugging her, please call the vet. You can't take chances with our medicines. Does she sleep with you at night? And is she the only cat? Maybe she's lonely and you could cuddle with her in bed. Good luck!

I just used a squirt bottle full of warm water and sprayed her when she started her unacceptable behaviour. It only took two nights and she quit her annoying habit. Sleep tight.
