Try to sit quitely with your eyes open or closed. Breathe in while thinking about counting to ten. Then breathe out while counting to ten. You will have all kinds of thoughts go through your mind, but that's okay, just let them come and go. Hopefully, you can find a place where you can be alone and no one will interupt you. Try to do that for about five minutes once a day. If you can, work up to about fifteen minutes a day--that's usually enough for most people. If you are a religious person, you can say a prayer or something instead of counting to ten if you like; but the main thing is to breathe deeply. I learned this from a book about Zen Buddhism. But you don't have to connect it to any kind of religion if you don't want to. I learned how to meditate and I lost interest in smoking pot or drinking alcohol, I decided meditation was better than either one. After you get really good at it, you will be able to do it even when there are other people around and even if it's noisy.

Lie down in a quiet room. You are going to work your way through your body and tense and relax each set of muscles. Start at your feet and tense your muscles for a count of 5 seconds and relax for 5 seconds. Then point your toes and tense your muscles for a count of 5 seconds and relax for 5 seconds. You work your way up through both legs and then tense your bottom and then work your way up, right to your face. Whilst your are relaxing, take some deep breaths.

This really does help you to relax and is used by Psychologists as a relaxation technique. Give it a go.

Closing your eyes while slowing breathing in through your nostrils and out through your mouth. Try drowning out all sounds and just concentrate on your breathing.

Also, rubbing your temples or the pressure point in the middle of your palms helps you destress.

Taking hot baths and showers usually work too. Sometimes going for a run or to the gym to let off some steam can help you decompress.

For my birthday my sister got me a spa package with a mani/pedi, facial and massage--it was amazing!!

actually excersize, or its after effects, are very tranquilizing.

just doing any kind of excersize that gets your heart rate up for a while releases endorphins (natural chemical relaxers and pain-killers) throughout your body.

good luck
