Excellent idea! I would be far more impressed with religious people who could demonstrate how they had helped to make the world a better place by giving a fellow human being a hand-up. Not all of us were born to save the world as individuals, but perhaps acting in concert, doing a small bit each, we could make a difference. We are all generally agreed that the evils afflicting us are war, disease, starvation, poverty and inequality. suspend belief (and disbelief) and when we have gone some way to solve these problems..maybe then we can find time to discuss and debate the finer points of theism or its lack. Practise first..then you can preach!

God is defined by the Hindu scriptures as the one that liberates the human mind from bondage. This is the most advanced idea that I can think of as being beatiful, pregnant and one that should be cherished. It is called the BRAHMAN[ not the caste brahmin![.Those unable to reach this thinking are advised {not commanded or forced] to seek God in personal images. Such an approach gives one a sense of attainable direction. This liberality of outlook has served the Hindus very well indeed. It lleads to high moral principles and spiritual creativity. Does anyone seriously think that any other religion, bound as theu are to forced submission and enslavement, could produce a Mahatma Gandhi, or a Ramana Maharshi, or a Swami Vivekananda to name but a few from the myriad revered names?I must tell you that I am a total rationalist but these are the objective analyses that I have come upon. The remarkable thing in all tthese things is the fact that one does not have to observe any rituals, rites of passage or tenets imposed upon them in order to be a Hindu!. Many many thanks for your enquiry.

My friend, I cannot see God face to face at present, and yet, I can see him in the love of many believers who are out in the streets, hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, orphanages, streets and gutters, schools, and places of work, many doing normal day to day work, for their community, nation, and so forth. However, as our Lord Commanded, we do not carry a large sign, saying, "Hey Look at us we are Christians" Many Christians have died because of their faith, helping the poor and down trodden, or simply bringing the Gospel, (Good News) of Christ to the World. My Friend, perhaps you can tell us why the Word of God is feared by so many in the world today, and why so many people spend so much of their time trying to deny him. It would be better for them to seek him with an open mind instead of a closed heart, and then their eyes may be opened. You cannot see the wood for the trees if you have your eyes closed. You can however, stand in the middle of a field and see the trees bend, and feel the wind, if you believe there is a wind there, but, how do you know? after all, you cannot see it. Yours in his love.

the invisible God comment aside, you think for some reason I'm not helping the poor and disadvantaged in the community? That's a little presumptuous. You don't even know me.
The Bible says for me to help others and to love others. Even says to love our enemies. That's why I say a prayer for all the atheists on here that try too hard to tear Christians down for no reason.

I myself don't believe in god, but i think people find it easier to worship an invisible god than to face the stark reality of this life. They have to believe that there's a better place than this. You can't have a go at them for their beliefs, and I'd like to think they were right, and I'd like to share their faith ,but i just can't. I just believe you live you die end off story.

Dear thinker,
Those who follow the God of the Bible- are called to share Christ's heart through different areas of their lives- including serving their communities, helping the poor, etc. I think as you look at recent tragedies like Louisiana and the typhoon in Thailand, you'll find Christian organizations at the forefront of helping. i know my church devotes a lot of time and energy in serving the homeless, and fighting against those who oppress teens through prostitution in third world countries.
i think most people who defend their faith are not worried about people questioning their beliefs. Obviously the topic of God's existence is an important topic and has tremendous implications. Most people who defend their faith are actually trying to share their faith- because their faith teaches them that without faith in the one true God people will be eternally separated from Him and that's a pretty important thing.
Hope that helps. Kindly,
Nickster

My god is a babe, sometimes she is a man, sometimes he is a billy goat that eats candy popcorn and also runs the merry-go-round. God is different to each indviduals perspective, help the community out because it needs help, if a god cares, they will take note and do magic stuff later.

The way you have cobbled together your question (s) makes me wonder about the name you call yourself. Some of the finest charitable work is done by people who have a faith , not to please their God but in response to His love . If your beliefs are questioned then it is natural if pressed to respond .

You know, you're right. We need more visible Gods. To some islanders in the Pacific, their Gods are the volcano's on their islands. I think they're on to something..
