I bought this puppy last Thur. (10 days ago). For the first 3 days he refused to eat, after I took him to 2 different vets both said he was fine give him more time to adjust. He refuses to play at all. He will not eat treats. He will only eat dry puppy chow and thats only if every one leaves the room and he's alone. He hiddes and will not come out unless you find him and drag him out. Although he never plays he is the most lovable puppy ever he loves to cuddle up to you and wines if you put him down. If you try to call hi he does not respond we will just sit and wine unless you go pick him up. I just want him to be a happy puppy!!!

Your mistake...trying to force him. Let him be. I have a chocolate long hair dashund and at first she was terrified of everything. Just let him hide for now. In a week or so make him earn his food. Keep it up away from him until you are ready, then set it in the same room as you and make him come in to eat. He won't starve I promise. But you have to realize the breed is tenacious and independant although very shy or new situations. You have to establish dominance without physcial punishment at a very early age.

I am guessing that since you bought the puppy he is VERY young in age. And very very scared. He/she has been taken away from his mom and brother and sisters. Everything that he/she has ever known. Tossed into a pet shop window in a cage with other "strange" puppies that are not like him. Now he is at your house there is no mommie that he knows. And no other dogs. True he does need time to adjust.

Something to keep inmind that if you pick him up everytime he whines you are creating a behavior for the future that he will continue to do.

Leave a leash on the pup, easier to find and get out. change your treats to more desireable treats. Liverworst, Cheese, something yummy. Just limit amounts and keep in mind how much you are feeding. so not to over feed.

good luck

I agree with several others here. Don't force him. When he's hungry he'll eat. Just talk to him as much as possible and let him hear your soothing voice so he knows things are ok. He'll come around eventually. If he doesn't then maybe call your local pet stores and see if they have a trainer there that can give you some advice about other things you can do.

We used to have a mini daschund and he was the biggest baby. He was definitely one who needed to be pampered. When I called him, I had to use a very happy excited tone. If I used a normal tone he would act like a dog who is constantly beaten. At the vets he would shake so hard because he was scared. He needed to be covered when he slept. I think your dog just needs more time to get used to his new life.

he's fine. i work at the humane society and have delt with stuff like this before. he probably has seperation anxiety, thats why he crys when put down. he's also only a puppy so give him time to adjust to you and also he might just have a shy personality. Dogs have personalities and habits just like people.

Just give him time and try to feed him...dont force...get treats and try to make him your friend. Then you can try playing with him...and eventually he has to eat...just leave a full bowl of doggie kibble out all day with him. Get a leash and bring him for a walk and try to play fetch with him...if hes had his shots get him a new friend or bring him to a doggy park to meet new dogs. Hope this helps.

He's still adjusting to a new home and its surroundings...he'll come around and its something you can't rush...soon as he develop a sense of security around the new surroundings, he'll be more trusting of the surroundings and acceptable of you and your family. Good Luck and Congrats on the new family member in your house!

i would say watch the dog whisperer on national geographic channel.
i seen him deal with skiddish dog. what he did was approch the dog, sitting down with his back towrds the dog. got right next to the dog and just sat there for awhile just to let the dog get used to him.
to make it eat he would jog/walk the dog for a while to make it tiered then the dog would eat anything.
