Lexapro, Celexa... and Many others. Your Husband needs to See an Actual Psychiatrist about this... not a General Practitioner, which is what a lot of people have been doing lately. Talk to a Professional that can Really Evaluate Him to decide the Correct Meds for Him.

There are a LOT of other medications besides Paxil. Try another for a few months, surely there is something that will help. Keep trying different meds until you find the one that works for you. Personally, I would not recommend Xanax, it's highly addictive and the withdrawal effects after 3 months, just isn't worth it (been there myself and I won't take it ever again!!!!).

There are many different medications and a lot of combinations they can put him on. Be sure to talk to your doctor about why the Paxil wasn't effective and side effects he might be worried about. Sometimes it takes along time to get on the right medication and dosage, but it's totally worth it. Everyone's brain chemistry is different but I'm on Topiramate, Divalproex & Lamotrigine for mood swings. Make an appointment with a psychiatrist for a perscription just for him. Hope he's doing well soon.

Yes there are other meds. That's why there are doctors. Your husband will need a prescription for whatever else is to be tried. And no matter what other answers you may get here, they apply only to the person offering the answer, of the person that that individual is talking about. They do not apply to your husband.

Your husband needs to share this information with his doctor. Keeping a journal of how he feels daily is good until he and his doctor are able to make a good match. I'm bipolar and manic depressive. I take valproic acid and lithium for the mood swings. I began with prozac, for my depression. It didn't agree with me so my doctor switched me to sertratline. That worked for six years, then the depression began to creep back. Five years ago she changed my antidepressant to venlafaxine. All has been well since. I'm sure I'll have to change medications in the future, but as long as I pay attention to what my body is telling me, I'm fine. I'm sure your hubby will be also.
The art of prescribing that perfect medicine is very touch and go. It is your husbands responsibility as much as the doctors to make sure he gets the best treatment possible for a better life.

Some of the best Rx are:
1. Cymbalta
2. Zoloft
3. Wellbutrin
Each of them is specific to what your husband appears to be going through. You really do need to talk with a psychiatrist (not a general practitioner) who can evaluate your husband and treat him with appropriate medications.
Good luck!

I use Zoloft and that has helped a lot. Especially with anger management and ocd.
