What's your favourite Bible Version and Why?

I love the Message and the NLT. What do you like? Please this is a question for serious bible readers so if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all.

The answer are great. I have many bible version myself. What I love about the message is that it is a great bible just for reading. I have the NLT study bible for study and I also cross reference many other versions. It definately is great that there are so many versions and paraphrases. It's expands our knowledge of God I believe.

Hi Jo,

The Message and the NLT are both great versions- because sometimes it speaks to us in a language that we are very familar with and hits home. Eugene Peterson who translated the Message has such a heart for God.

I love the NKJV. It's very poetic- espesically the Pslams and Proverbs. And it's very similar to the NASB- which is the version that is most closest to the original manuscripts.

Although these newer translations are easier to read, I still stick with the King James Version. Not the New King James Version.
Because a lot of these other translations actually LEAVE OUT SOME SCRIPTURE VERSES!!!!!!!
Here's an example: I have the NIV (New International Version).
There is no Acts 8:37 !!!!!!!!! It jumps from Acts 8:36 directly to Acts 8:38.
If I had time, I could find many more verses that have been omitted from the NIV, NAS, NKJV, etc etc etc.

I like comparing the NIV and the KJV because the NIV is easier to read but the KJV is a word for word translation and so it seems like you can use the NIV to better understand the KJV and use the KJV to correct errors of interpretation in the NIV which is a dynamic equivalent, or thought for thought translation.

The NLT is one of the easiest versions to read but in their effort to make it easy to read I find that the editors went a little too far for my taste. The Message is a paraphrase of the Bible and sometimes it has a way of conveying the idea in a passage in a more comprehensible way but I prefer the Living Bible paraphrase to the Message because it sticks closer to the original text.

New American Standard 1977 edition - closest to the Greek and Hebrew than any other translation and yet has the flair of the King James. Newer versions are on the market but have modernized all the KJV language (which some people like). Try it if you can find it!

Well, I used NIV for most of my life, so that is the version I have all the memorized parts in. But recently I've switched to a split Bible with NASB and the Message. I like the parallel setup. The Message often words things differently and makes it clearer. NASB is just a nice different wording that I like.

Good question. I like the King James, New King James, or New American Standard for daily reading, and the Amplified Bible to help shed light on particular passages or references in the others.

The Everyday Study Edition of The Holy Bible. This is my favorite because of the easy to understand language and the linked scriptures.

I really liked the TLB even more than the Message. I like the NASB for looking up verses because it's in that format. I like the HCB also. I just got the NCV on MP3 and am really enjoying it. I don't care for the KJV,NKJV or the NIV but I did like the RSV and TAB. I am glad that we have so many good translations and can read them all.

I'm really enjoying the New Century Version (NCV). It reads a little like the NIV (New International Version) but it's kind of like the NLT (New Living Translation) in places.
