don't know really but i never thought it worked on my hair!!

i have bought many different high end items with 'humectant' and don't think they are worth the money they charge.

if you need a good treatment,, stick to the hot oil...its cheap and been around for years.

Humectants are moisture-binding substances that absorb moisture or promote the retention of moisture. The molecular structure of home remedies or moisturizers, like mayonaise or hot oil does not allow absorption of the humectant into the hair. It does however, sooth the roughness of the cuticle layer of the hair giving a temporary fix. The ingredients in professional products are designed to be more readily absorbed into the hairshaft itself...not just lay on the surface.

they bind to your hair and allow moisture from the environment to get into the hair shaft, this is good because certain ethnicities tend to have drier hair so they will need more moisture in their hair, humectants are perfect for that. you ever see someone with a nice hairstlye and it is humid out and their hair goes...tick tick boom and it gets all poofy. if their hair was properly mositurized it would not do that
