I have the Panasonic 50" plasma. It's the best 50" plasma there is.

LCD is always going to have a higher quality image compared to plasma though, however 40" is small in my opinion. I'd still opt for the 50".

Sony is not always the best. Unlike the others, I actually own the TV you're talking about.

If you're willing to wait another year, 50" LCD's will be affordable by then.

Panasonic and Sony are both good brand and very reliable products. If I was to choose, I would choose Panasonic, you will most likely get more TV for your money. You may also get more features and options with the Panasonic. Sony's are on the high end but reliable. Check out the picture quality, that might be the deciding factor in your purchase.

Panasonics are the best-selling HD TVS.
I have a Panasonic and very happy with the results.
Sony has had a downfall with their other electronics since the PS3's were released and the technical problems were reported.
So,
Panasonic All The Way.

Definitely Sony! I would say they're the best in electronics when it comes to TVs. Not cameras though. :X
