I have a himalayan cat, who I belive is now having her first heat cycle. She is laying flat on the floor, everything but her back legs, and she moves them back and forth. She is doing this constantly, day and night while howling. Usually when I pick her up she just hangs limp, but now when I try and pick her up her whole body is stiff and back arched, and her tail keeps twiching kind of like muscle spasms. I've been told that when cats come into heat that they will want extra attention and howl a lot, but is this also normal for cats when they come into heat?

Here's a site about them. This is a paragraph from the second site.
Depending on what I read, it's normal.

A cat in estrus (heat) carries her tail to one side, keeps her hindquarters elevated, exhibits "treading" movements of the hind legs, and seems unusually affectionate. She spends a good deal of time rolling on the floor and seems much more restless than usual. The cat's voice seems more piercing than usual and she may "call" for 1-2 days before she accepts the male.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Yes all of what you described is a cat coming into heat. And I bet if you scratch right above her tail, the tail will go to one side or another. She is dead in the middle of it and ready to recieve a male. I feel for you because I know it can be annoying!

This is totally normal! I've worked for a Veterinarian for 16 years, so I've heard it all! They do act totally crazy during their heat cycle! Yowling, tail twitching, rolling around in the floor! She will be fine!

She is definitely in heat. This is normal behavior for a female cat. Sorry, it ain't pretty. If you plan on breeding her, nows the time. If not, it would be a good idea to get her spaded.

Yes, it's normal. My cat just went out of heat and she acted just like that. I had her spayed just last week, so hopefully I won't have to go through that again.

completely typical behavior for a cat in heat!!!! If you do not plan to breed her, I suggest setting up an appt. at the vet to get her spayed.

Spay the cat. This is normal and there are PLENTY of Himi's in the world. No need for more.
