Is there a way to hold the breech open on an AK if there is no magazine attached?

why are people such assholes? the topic is named hunting, but since there are no gun topics, it is ment to include all firearm related topics. Also a ak is an appropriate gun to hunt with. smaller magazines can be had, it is semi-auto so followup shots are easy, and for brush, and tight areas it would be a very great choice.

I do not own a AK, but I assume its about the same as the sks. If it is then you can manually push the bolt stop up. Just pull the bolt all the way back, reach down into the reciever and slide the metal piece in the back upward, then slowly release the bolt. Its easiest to see the bolt stop if you have the mag in, and lock open the bolt. if you look at the front of the bolt you should see where it is contacting the bolt stop.

EDIT: btw, a ak47 is not considered an assult rifle unless it is automatic. it was designed to be selective fire, but since most of them were converted to be semi-auto it is no longer an assult rifle.

i own an AK and as far as i know it doesnt stay open normally unless you hold it regardless of if there is a magazine attached or not. sometimes mine does though if i pull it back slowly but if you bump it at all the bolt will slide back forward.

"createdto" is on the money. One warning. Be careful when you put your finger inside the bolt/chamber area. If you release the bolt before you secure it or get your finger out of the area, the bolt will slam forward and catch your finger against the chamber. You will say many bad words when you do this. . .

You want to hunt with an assault rifle?

You might have better luck trying a military related "board."
