Or is even the friendship some innocent way in indulging in an attraction. I am wondering because I rarely see men with so called unattractive female friends.

Oh good question! I once read somewhere that men and women can only just be friends if they each find the other slightly repulsive in some way.

Men and women can really just be friends. That's not to say there can't or won't be moments of 'tension', but in the long run most of the issues come from "significant others" and those outside the friendship.

(That is to say, the boyfriend/husband of the woman get jealous of the male friend and the girlfriend/wife of the man get jealous of the female friend. We may be a race known for its intelligence, but instinctive sexual competition still plays a part in the human condition.)

That's a good question. I believe that many people are just friends, but many also have an underlying attraction to their friends. Especially when people are awkward with the opposite gender, any friendliness from the other sex is taken as affection and often leads to unhappiness.

Yes, they can be just friends. However, I work with three single guys and all of them are older than me. They all want to be my boyfriend. One of the guys is my best friend, but he wants to marry me but he doesn't know that I know...he's 37 and I'm 20.I just worry that we don't have enough in common and that it wouldn't work out. I've been working with him for 2 1/2 years....Sometimes it's tough but men and women can be just friends. I don't see myself as attractive.I'm 5'8 190 lbs, so it isn't always looks. After you're around people for so long, sometimes you do get feelings toward them.

yea, it happens, but rarely.
it can happen when both have no thing in common or impossible to be as couple, so to keep themselves close to each other they prefer friendship.
or when the girl has boyfriend, so the other guys re just friends
or when both re mature enough to understand the feeling of each other as friends.
or women married or men married have friends of both sex.
of course, u know the meaning of friendship,

Yeah they can be friends. When I hang out with my guy friends and they want to hang out with girls and maybe take them home we joke around about being brother and sister. Also I am an attractive female and it works and lets them hit on girls and we have NO attraction sexually towards each other.

I believe men are only friends with women because there is an underlying chance somewhere that they could be something more some day.

Sure i have heaps of male friends with no interest whatsoever - it just depends on yourself and whether you like the attention that being with a man brings

I have plenty of male friends. I don't think it has anything to do with attraction.
