you can use a conditioner that you use on your hair, don't use alcohol it will dry out your skin. Use the conditioner in place of the vaseline.

try ky jelly,I've never heard of putting Vaseline on the skin for hair color,i have for a perm.because the color will wash off.soon as it gets on the skin wipe it off. hair dresser from Mississippi

Conditioner or lotion, like some cheap-*** $1 Suave (which is only good for such purposes, or to shave your legs with, because it's of NO USE regarding hair).

Use cutical cream. It works very well, and most people in the hair profession would recommend it.
