Does anyone else love scottish accents? I just think they are so pretty and they are just interesting I guess. Je ne sais quoi. Although that's not my question. I want to know if there are any other accents (when speaking english) that are even remotely similar to scottish, discounting irish. Even though many people think that irish accents sound similar I think they are still very different. Just curious...Thanks a bunch if you can think of anything.....

Scottish accents are cool, but I think they are sometimes hard to understand. I've taught English as a second language and most people I know who are not native English speakers say that Scottish people are the hardest to understand (as compared to a London accent, North American accent, Australian accent, etc.). I'm a native English speaker and if I sometimes have trouble understanding Scottish people, I can only imagine how hard it must be for non-native English speakers! Anyway, I don't know of any other accents that are just like Scottish.

I'm Scottish and thanks for the compliment of our accent :D well the answer to your question, there are lots of similarities between South African and Scottish (originated by Dutch and Scots English) Nova Scotia Canadian have a slightly Scottish twang, and there are certain Australian communities that are descended from Scottish settlers

Hope that helps
