Well, notepad can't do centering and bold, or much of anything else for that matter. Assuming you're using Windows, you could use WordPad.

Click on the start menu, then "All Programs"
Somewhere near the top will be "Accessories"
In there is a shortcut to WordPad.

And there you go.
However, there is no spell check unless you buy a larger program, such as Microsoft Word.

Microsoft's notepad that comes with Windows does not have a dictionary or spell checker, nor does WordPad.

If you need these features go to http://www.openoffice.org and download OpenOffice for Windows. It's open source which is FREE software. It comes with a professional level word processor (yep spell checker, dictionary, formatting options, etc...) It also comes with a spreadsheet program, presentation program as well as a database program.

If you go to http://inpics.net/writer2.html there is a really easy tutorial on how to use "writer" the word processor for Open Office and its free as well.

Best of luck!

Um, notepad is next to useless, and has few features. I know, I have it on all four of my computers (two desktops - one operational, one not, and two laptops - one is well over 6 years old running Windows 95 and barely operational, and the other is 15 months old).

Buy either MS Word, or Word Perfect. If you shudder at the word "buy," you can find freeware that will fit the bill on line (google can help with this).

Try start > run > notepad.exe

That should force it open.

Note pad does not format your text.
