if you've ever had an eating disorder and saw someone, did it help you at all? what kinds of things did they do to help you overcome your problem and was it useful?

I saw a dietician, but not for an eating disorder.
It was because I was diagnosed with other health problems that might've been related to my diet.

It was very beneficial in that the dietician explained proper portion sizes and healthy food choices and also gave helpful hints on snacks.

But the thing that benefited me the most, was the dietician was also a counselor and for some reason, her and I clicked - we were able to understand each other without lengthy explanations - and I ended up pouring my heart out to her over my depression in that the doctors were having such difficulty finding out why I was ill and suffering from severe fatigue.

That led to me telling her about several life changing experiences that I had gone through over a period of 3 months, and then she counseled me that it was okay to feel sorry for myself.

I don't know why that meant so much to me, but it truly helped for someone to tell me that it was okay to feel bad for myself and the things that I had gone through and survived.

Good luck to you and I suggest that you definitely seek help.
You will not regret it!

I have treated disorders, but those who were helped wanted to be helped. It is difficult to treat, because the individuals wanted to have the power to do what they wanted to do with food, and yet the choices they were making were not OK. Only go to a person who has credentials saying they can and have helped eating disorders. Your doctor would have names of such people, hopefully. If you try a therapist and they are caring and supportive, don't keep going back. You need to be comfortable and feel safe in exploring the reasons why you have chosen this path to follow. Medicines are helpful in some cases; dietitians are used only along with a therapist skilled in this area. Good Luck.
