For checked in luggage that goes in the cargo hold...you can take pretty much anything except non-toiletry articles that are flammable or combustible. No matches or lighters. No poisons such as ant spray, etc. Toiletries such as hairsprays are allowed. But they cannot excede a certain limit. I would suggest putting any liquids or gels in you checked baggage, since the rules for carrying those in your carry-on bags have changed.
I believe to carry them in your carry on they must be under ounces and all together must fit in a quart size zip lock bag. So don't forget to bring the ziplock. Here's the website:

It all depends where you fly to.If your travelling to USA or UK make sure you DO NOT carry any objects that is sharp even a nail file is a NO NO.but the best way I suggest is first find out who you want to travel (airline)with then give them a ring and just ask them.USA is the one you should watch out for.Try to go to flight as little as possible or at least do not take anything that has a sharp edge or very pointy.

The best information is to go to this TSA site and they will be as detailed as they can be. They will have the information that you will need. Though you could also check with the airline that you are flying on and see what they have to say also. Since airlines do vary from one to another.

You can't take razer blades, lighters, or anything that could be used as a weapon (tools, sporting implements such as bats).

If you are flying to london I think they still have some restrictions on taking liquid substances (even water) on boad but I'm not sure.
