You want a heavy stainless steel with a heavy aluminum core base or anodized aluminum.

My recommendation for both quality and price would be to check out Cook's Essentials on QVC. They have at least five lines of cookware designed by customer requests and low prices because they eliminate the middle man. Go to qvc.com.

Note... I was building a set of Analon and Calphalon at $50-$100 per piece and switched to Cook's Essentials, which I like even better because they are metal utensil safe, guaranteed for life and look like new after 3-4 years. They were rated #1 by Consumer Reports last year. You can get full sets for a little over $100 and individual pieces are often at special prices that are quite low.

As the previous poster mentioned you can also check out ebay once you've picked out the pieces you're interested in. I've bought several pieces there as well as electric appliances.

you can find some decent quality calphalon in the non stick at Target. I have even seen it on the clearance rack. And believe it or not, I buy my pots and pans on ebay. I get the pieces I want at the prices I want. And I don't buy junk. I cook quite a bit so I am fussy.

i always buy allclad. personally I don't use a lot of the teflon coated pains. I prefer all stainless steel varieties and use olive oil, butter or cooking spray. but I usually do own a non-stick variety for doing things like omelets. Most of the chefs that work here in the napa valley use allclad.

T-Fal or RegalWare are good products if you get the heavier quality.
