I spray my cats with a water bottle when they are doing something that I don't want them to do. It's usually better to start this when the cats are young but it would probably still work. My cats kept bothering my Christmas tree last year and I sprayed them with the water and they stopped after a few times. It is especially good to try to hide when you spray them so that they think it will happen even when you aren't around.
Hope that helps!

Spraying with water won't help if you're not home to do it. What you can do is get some vaseline or vegetable spray oil. Put it on the edge of the counter. When the cat jumps up and his/her paws land on this slippery surface, they will obviously fall down and not like the feeling on thier paws. It will work!

I heard somewhere that you can stop that behaviour by putting vaseline along the tops of the counters until itlearns not to do that. Cats don't like sticky feet and it'll make it slip off too. It might be unpleasant for you for a few days but it'll teach it the lesson quickly.

Keep a spray bottle of water nearby and whenever your cat jumps up on the counter, spray him/her. Cats hate getting wet, and the spray of water is harmless. Be consistent, cats are smart, and in a few days of using this technique, your cat will realize it's not worth the trouble of getting wet!

Put some tin foil on the counter when the cat jumps on it it will make noise and they do not like the feel of it on their paws. I did that with my cat and it stopped. And it was kind of funny watching the reaction too.

one humane way I use myself is a water bottle. every time you see the cat where you don't want it spray a little water its way. It will take a few times but cats are trainable. Just like using a cat box. Good luck to you and your cat :)

Keep a bottle of water handy and spray him when he does something you don't want him to. He will get the idea after a few times.

Why is it a problem? What's on top of the cupboard that he can harm?
