it has just been brought to my attention that me and my hausband have less than a month to move from our current residency. although we are not legally married we introduce ourselves as husband and wife. last year he was in a life threatening car accident which left him with alot of nerve damage and is unable to work. he luckily is able to collect social security which isnt that much. at the present moment i am the only one with a stable income and because of our current situation as far as moving is concerned we want to relocate to another state which i am currently looking into for jobs before the move. my question is this is there a way that ss or public assistance would be able to assist us with moving expenses even if we are not legally married? if so how would i go about getting more information on this matter. and would it be easier if we were legally married. thank u to all those who took an interest in my dilemma. and any suggestions will be tried and greatly appreciated.

Each state is different. I am sure you know that. In Oklahoma, the law is oddly vague regarding common law marriage. According to OK, you are married by common law if and only if you present yourselves to the public as married for at least one night. That could be a stay at a motel as a married couple. In contrast, if you live together for 70 years without any such presentation to the public as a married couple, then you still are not married. Other examples of presenting yourselves as married are joint utility bills or residence bills, joint checking accounts, church membership and/or baptism as a married couple.
Check local laws. You may be married. You may have rights of which you do not know. I am sorry about your circumstances. Good luck!

I know the last thing you think you need is a book to read. But in the interest of caring for your husband I will recommend one anyhow. It is written for the average Joe to understand and deals with muscles (pressure from which can cause or aggravate nerve damage). Our local library has a few copies so it may be able to be located quite easily. It is The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
Good luck to you for all the rest.
