I don't know which is more intelligent or healthy, but i have met both huskies and malamutes, and i like them both. My teacher has a malamute named meistro because he 'sings' a lot. He is the biggest teddy bear you could ever meet. He is close to 200 pounds (which is quite large for the breed), but my teachers two young children can climb all over him, and he doesn't mind at all, infact he loves the attention from the kids. His only problem is that he is not fond of other dogs, and he has to go very slow when being introduced to them, but he eventually gets to know them, and is fine. Malamutes are also larger than huskies.
I work in a vet clinic, we haven't seen any real health problems with either huskies or malamutes. I hope this helps a little. Have fun finding your new dog!!

I have a Malamute and my best friend has a Husky. Both are very intelligent. Neither breed is easy to train but well worth the effort it takes. Cuddly? Both breeds. Healthy? Both but of course part of that depends on if you give them the tons of exercise they require daily and look after them well. Huskies are "runners" and often get out. Malamutes are not escapers.

Huskies are a pain...... no offence to anyone but we had one and it was a definite pain. I don't know much about malamutes, I suggest you looking up information on the breed, the world could tell you anything about any dog but find breed characteristics and temperament. Maybe our husky was just like that, other huskies may be awesome.. same with any other dog.

both incredibly intelligent, however that does not mean they are easily trained. both these breeds do have an independence about them, and may know a command, but wont necessarily obey....because they just dont want too, or are not ready too. This normally comes with the breeds, as they were originaly breed to have some independence and to act on a situation at times without command.
both cuddly, just look at them both, how could you not cuddle either?
In general I beleive both resonably sound in health. as they are both on the larger side, joints problems could arise, but if you go through a sound breeder these chances are decreased. (but still not guarenteed to be non existent)
Keep in mind for the Potential of dog agression, I have met some that love other dogs, but many that dont.
Good fencing a must for both but particuarly the husky, a master escape artist is he.
Good luck with your decision, both a potential wonderful breed, and great companion to have, and as always, both exceptional looking dogs.

All those will determine the breeder and how the dog is bred. Dogs bred in a puppymill or backyard breeding are less likely to be healthy. I think huskies are more protective and cuddly from personal experience.

I would say the Malamute is more intelligent. If you get one he will be happier in a colder climate...

Malamutes are great. They are more bear-like (as in teddy bear)
