I HAVE THE ANSWER!!!!
My son will be 3 in March. I have been trying off and on to potty train him since last April. He wasn't ready so I put it off for a while but my husband and I have been getting tired of changing dirty pull-ups so i've decided to give it another try. I CRACKED THE CODE! It finaly worked, I just had to wait for him and myself to be ready.
Pick a week when you don't have to go anywhere, STAY HOME! It will take that long cause you son needs to figure out the sensation. My son doesn't tell me he needs to go, I put him on the potty and tell him to wait for the pee pee to come out.
My son is like any other boy who likes cartoons so I put his portable potty on a towel in front of the tv and put on a video.
(I used a towel under the potty for spills, I had to change it just about everytime he went. Alot of laundry that week)
He watches alot of videos that week. But it was all worth it cause know he goes by himself. I still ask him every once in a while if he needs to go but he say's no everytime even if he needs to go. He sat and watched his video and peed in the potty. When he would get up and I knew that he wasn't done peeing I would tell him to sit on the potty and sometimes he said no and i would turn off th tv and then he sat back down on the potty so i would turn the tv back on. When he did go pee I went over board with happyness. We sang the potty song "Russel went pee pee on the potty, Russel went pee pee on the potty Horray!!!!" and we danced. He was so happy to see me happy that he wanted me to be happy again and again. I found that the same routine worked.
be prepared to have accidents but don't punish him for it just say "did you have an accident? Thats ok go sit on the potty and see if there's anymore pee pee that needs to come out."
OUR ROUTINE:
Pee pee on the potty
Then he got 2 chocolate chips and we dumped the pee in the BIG potty and he gets to flush the toilet and say's "bye bye pee pee" and washed our hands. then he got a sticker for washing his hands.
2 chocolated chips for pee
6 chocolate chips and a lolly pop for poo (cause it's special)
1 sticker for washing his hands.
The first couple of days give him alot of juice and milk, everytime he's finished his cup fill it up again. I did this with my son and he had to pee every 20min. That means the more he pee's the more times he get's that sensation and figures it out. I bought a timer at the dollar store to remind me it's been 20min and make sure he was sitting on the potty. I gave him alot for attention that week, lots of hugs and kiss and I told him "mommy is so happy, you make mommy so happy when you go pee on the potty, i'm so proud of you!" "Your a big boy now that you go pee on the potty" and we would call his aunt and tell her over the phone and she would respond with pure excitment. That made him happy!
My son was going pee by himself after the 6th day but don't get me wrong he still had many accidents but its a work in progress, and we are still working on going poo. And he wears a pull-up at night.
By the way we are on day 8. I hope this helps. A friend of mine used mini brownies as a treat and her son was trained in 2 days. I wish!!! but you never know it might work for you!
best of luck!!!

A toddler needs to be able to feel the wetness so they can make the connection between feeling and going to the potty. Diapering a baby with a cloth diaper will give you a great head start in potty training a toddler. Cloth diapers do not have a chemical gel (sodium polyacrylate) to absorb wetness; therefore, babies can associate the wetness. Don't be fooled by high priced disposable training pants. Disposable training pants will not allow your toddler to feel wetness.
The best time to start.
The average age a toddler will potty train is 2½. If you use cloth diapers you can expect your toddler to potty train 5 months to 1 year earlier. Girls tend to potty train faster than boys. Summer months makes potty training easier because toddlers can wear underwear or training pants with just a t-shirt. Potty training in the summer creates less clothing for a toddler to remove when going to the potty. Also summer potty training means less laundry when the toddler has an accident. Starting too early will usually result in in you spending half of your life waiting for your toddler to potty.
Don't start if there are big changes ahead such as:
New baby in the family.
Move from house or school.
Parent starting work.
Holiday.

All good advice here, but I guess it just takes patience. He will go when he is ready, I don't think rushing it is the best route. I work in a daycare with two and three year olds and some are ready quite quickly and some are still in diapers after three years old. When they do go in the potty for the first time we always make a huge deal of it!

My advice is to quit trying to do it quicker. You can't do this on your scedule, it will only work when he is ready. You will probably read this and say, whatever, but it's true. The only thing i can think of is you have access to another boy who is trained that he can watch like a sibling or cousin then he will learn best from seeing how it's done. But he won't be able to do it until his brain and bladder are mature enough.

i worked in daycare for like 6 years ... and i took what i learned from one daycare to another when i switched jobs and the technique worked wonderfully ... we always went to potty after meals and before going to sleep ..before we went outside..before we did anything different we went potty..some boys arent comfortable standing at the potty at first .. i think it was too intimidating.. so we had them sit for the first few times ... but however they did whenever they actually used the potty we made a big deal out of it ..clapping and cheering the whole 9 yards... i also had a sucker and if they went in the potty they got the sucker.. if they went agian they got another sucker but didnt get to eat that one it was to take home or for later in the day .. if they wet their clothes the sucker got taken away ... (i know suckers may not be the healthiest choice of bribery but when you got like 6 kids your potty trianing at the same time dumdums are the cheapest) also i always made the parents bring me underware ..even if they didnt wear it at home they wore them all day at daycare with me ..and it was a big deal wearing big boy/girl underwear ...so of course if they wet them it was also a big deal ...also you have to be consistent with your routine just because you go to grandmas for the day or are out shopping or something dont stop the routine. ive never been a big fan of pull ups cause theyre too much of a hassle and theyre not too easy to pull by themselves i dont care what the commercials say...

I don't know about little boys yet (my son is only 8 months) but I have heard about putting Cheerios in the toilet and making a game of it.
Also, being persistent on your end helps too, ask him every 20 minutes or so if he has to go potty, soon he will just start telling you he needs to go.
You really can't rush this....or it will take longer in the end.
Good Luck to you!!

Well my cousin loves carrots? Kind of weird. But anyway, everytime that he would go in the bathroom, he would get a carrot. It worked because he knew that he would be rewarded if he did. It went much faster than other ways.

Be patient some little boys aren't ready for the big step. When he is ready it will just happen. Just be encouraging and ask him once in awhile if he needs to use the bathroom. Don't ever punish him for accidents.

buy him "big boy" underwear telling him that he can wear them when potty trained
play a game with him aiming for the toilet paper which you threw into the toilet bowl
son basically was trained within one month
I told him he could sleep in a big boy bed when dry throughout the night
he was within 6 months
give him obtainable goals
