Royal Canin is NOT a good quality food. It certainly isn't as bad as Purina, Pedigree, generic brands, etc but it certainly is not a human grade holistic food.
Chelifan who claims to be a Vet Tech says that her dogs do great on the DD formula. Well this food contains corn (should never be in pet foods), beet pulp (should never be in pet foods), wheat gluten (should never be in pet foods), soybean oil (should not be used in pet foods), and so on. Foods like Iams/Eukanuba, Purina, Science Diet, etc are the same. They contain fillers, by-products, unidentified ingredients, cancer causing chemical preservatives and more.
I really wish people would start to put more energy into researching pet foods instead of supporting these mass marketed companies.
If you want your dog to be healthy, you sould be looking into human grade foods like Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Fromm, Canidae, etc. This foods contain only whole, fresh, human grade ingredients...no fillers or foreign ingredients.
Vets are NOT nutritionists. They do not receive training in pet nutrition and that is evident in their food choices. ANYONE who recommends Iams, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Purina, etc knows NOTHING about pet nutrition. Their advice should be taken with caution.

In the past, I had a dog that was put on Royal Canin Large Breed Mobility food along with her regular prescription of Rimadyl and a supplement of Glucosamine MSM. She was a dog with severe Hip Dysplasia and Arthritis. After paying $70.00+ for a 30 lb. bag, the food did NOTHING but give her loose stools and more shedding. I put her on Merrick and she had less stool and a better coat. Even the prescription formula of this food was worthless. Live and learn. BTW, corn gluten is not a good thing. Corn is for chickens, not dogs. The breed specific crap doesn't mean much to me other than a LARGE breed puppy should NOT have a high protein diet. Adult food is fine, and certainly no more than 24% protein.

Royal Canin is an excellent dog and cat food. I am a Licensed Veterinary Technician- so this is my job to educate people on what food to feed. I feed my cat Royal Canin DD and he does extremely well on it. He has lost weight, and his coat looks fantastic. The foods I recommend to our clients are:
Flint River Ranch
Iams/Eukanuba
Hills Science Diet
if money is an issue- I rec. Purina
I never rec. a raw diet ever- actually it is very bad for domesticated dogs. There is a very high and serious health risk to you and your dog if you feed a raw diet. Salmonella and E Coli are the 2 most dangerous things that your dog can get from this- and it also contaminates the environment so it is a human health risk for anyone to feed raw. Please listen to me- I know what I am talking about. You can get it as well!!!

I have not used the dog food, but I use Royal Canin for my cats....they absolutly love it. If I buy another brand they will turn their noses up at it! I don't know about the dog food, but amazingly, this cat food reduces the odor of their feces, it says it right on the bag, and I noticed a big difference right away...weird but true!

It is WAY too expensive for the amount you get.... there are WAY better foods out there that are ALOT less expensive... just because a feed is expensive, does not mean that it is a good one... I would NEVER buy ROYAL CANIN EVER!!!! now Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul... that I would.... I feed a hunting dog food right now... I know it's a hunting dog food, but it is a well balanced food, and my 3 lb Chihuahua is the most spoiled, healthy dog that she can be!

I have never used Royal Canin, but use Canidae and have found that to be an excellent food for my dog. She has a beautiful coat, clear eyes, great looking teeth, a strong heart and an abundance of energy. So I would recommend it strongly. It is expensive, but her stools are small and hardly smell at all because there are no fillers in it. I also use Felidae for my cats and they are all in great health and the litter pans have very little odor because of it.

I personally like a brand called
'' Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers Soul''
They have it in the puppy food too...
My dogs have been doing great on it.
In general, anything you can buy at W@l M#rt or the grocery store is NOT good....
Here is a link that might help you.

I tried my Labrador on the Royal Canin Lab food and I didn't think it was that good. He usually has Eukanuba but when I tried him on Royal Canin his poo wasn't as firm and healthy looking as it had been on his previous diet - as 'good' as poo can look i guess : ). His stomach was also grumbly and he was smelling pretty bad from that end. Back on his Eukanuba he's fine. I guess they're like people - some can eat certain foods and some can't.

I have 2 pomeranians and they love it! One of my poms is dwarfed and really super small. All other dry food is too big for her to eat, but Royal Canin is perfect for her.
Anyway, I like the food and I recommend it. However, it is on the expensive side.

i have my german shepherd puppy on it and he seems to be doing well and likes it a lot. when i brought him home i had him on eukanuba for a week because that's what the breeder had him on. since i switched him his coat seems a little shinier and his "potty breaks" are much more consistent. i would definitely recommend it.
