I think it is time to have a talk with the boyfriend. You need to understand what is going on - because he is definitely sending you a mixed message. Of course, you state he isn't romantic in public and doesn't do "boyfriend stuff." He may find that being romantic in public is not a proper thing to do - that it is disrespectful and objectifying you. I am not sure what you mean by "boyfriend stuff" and unless you are clear with him - then he cannot possibly live up to your expectations, can he?

Sometimes it's the peer pressure that his friends give him. This is a masculine thing that happens always, and it becomes really confusing. While you can't force anyone to be emotional towards you in public, you could talk to him about the awkwardness it makes you feel.
Boys eventually grow up from it, and become more confident towards being more affectionate to you while in the company of his friends. But you should let him know easy, that it's a situation that's making you feel uncomfortable.

Has he ever? If he has never been like that....I do not see what the problem is....if this behavior is a change, YOU really need to have a talk with him. Find out whats going on...it may be several things.

Stop watching movies if thats the kind of boyfriend you want. That was all scripted and actors. No guys is REALLY like that. If you want to get his attention, grab his head.
