Pride becomes a sin when you use the "I" too much, especially in your mind.

There are some things that we tend to call pride which aren’t really pride. If you would tell someone “I’m proud of you,” that’s not pride. That’s honor.
Any time you are looking to yourself instead of to God, or are boasting of or trusting in your own accomplishments or trying to draw attention to yourself, that is pride, and pride is always sin. Pride was satan’s sin.

It's about balance between too little pride and too much pride....the good pride would be having self-confidence to face the world...that you take pride in your life's work...to put it simply, the good pride is when you are not ashamed to show to the world who you are...the bad pride however, is when you discourage others just to raise your ego...when what you do DOES NOT help people grow as better persons...

I ask this my self this question a lot. I'd say when you want to just do a good job at something, like taking pride in your work is good, or if you are just joking is ok. I think the sin part is when you are arrogant in your deeds.

proverbs 6: 16 seven things GOD hates 1 A proud look and the other verses james 4:6 but HE gives more grace therefore HE says GOD resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. THE PRIDE THAT GOD HATES MY FRIEND IS THE ONE THAT IS ARROGANT AND HAUGHTY THE ONE THAT IS BOASTFUL AND SELF CONCEITED. THE PRIDE IN LIFE AND TAKING PRIDE IN THE GOOD OR RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT U DO IS VERY DIFFERENT. BUT HE LOVES A HUMBLE SPIRIT THIS HE WILL HONOR AND GIVE GRACE TO THOSE THAT ARE HUMBLE. GOD BLESS

I would interpret that as you can be proud of what you accomplish but don't let your neighbor know. There is some wisdom to that. People get jealous in this world when they know how well you do. Keep your pride to yourself and no one gets hurt.

If the pride is in yourself, it is most often a sin. When the pride is in God it is never a sin.

C.S. Lewis wrote about this in "Mere Christianity" and Henry Drummond covered it some the "The Greatest thing in the World" Reading those will give you a much fuller answer than you can get here and you don't have to filter out the nonsense.
