If a kid is in high-school, how much education does the parent/home-school teacher need to teach them?

For the most part a high school education is enough. I would review the work ahead a little to see if there are any areas that might prove to be a problem for me. But, if you get stuck trying to teach something there are tutors available at local community colleges who can help without breaking the bank. You can also look into a homeschool co-op where you might teach english because it is your strong suit and another parent would teach math or science because it is theirs. Typically these co-ops meet once or twice a week, so if you get stuck there is a day to get help, or I am sure your child could even call the teacher of that subject and get help on an off day.

A lot of the curriculums are really strong though and do a good job walking the parent and student through it. Good Luck.

All of the high school homeschooled kids I know rely on textbooks, other resources they find or online/correspondence programs or are unschoolers and just set their own studies. The parents do little teaching, sometimes none, and are there as more of a support system, giving feedback, helping when necessary.

Well, It depends on the course you go through. Many require just as much as highschool. If you're looking for a program, make sure it's accredited. I went through the American School of Correspondence, but Penn Foster High School is also good.

If your kid is anything like me, parent help is needed very little. My sibs and i went online and did research to fin the best schools for us. I highly recommend:

and that American School one the other guy said. All are relatively cheap compared to most.
