First you need an actual passport and you will need to goto the US Embassy close to you and start the paperwork for a tourist visa. If you attempt to travel to the US without a tourist Visa you will not be allowed to enter were ever you land and will be sent straight back to Spain.

Can you use an expired bus pass to still get on the city bus? No. That is the equivalent of an expired passport. It is no longer considered a VALID travel document. The United States Government made it mandatory for all persons visiting USA, as well as all RETURNING citizens to have a valid travel document. Since (in theory) the US Border Protection could refuse you re-entry to USA with an expired passport, Canada Border Services will not accept that as a valid document. The two easiest travel documents to get are either an Enhanced Driver's License (EDL) if your state offers them, or a passport. The EDL is good for crossing the border on land or sea, while a passport is required if you fly. The airlines won't let you board the plane with an expired one. You can get a US passport using the EXPEDITED service, and it won't take as long. It is usually 2-3 weeks, but I think you can even get one in 48-72 hrs if needed. Just check on the US Passport office website.

I'm pretty sure you are in the visa waiver program with the US (I didn't need a visa when I went there). However, I don't know if we recognize digital passports. You can go to the US State Department web page and look under 'travel documents' for what you need.

Digital??? You need a tangible document in the form of a passport (booklet) from your country and a visa stamped on that document from the US Embassy to gain entry to the USA.

i'm not sure i understand what you mean by a digital passport. at any rate, you must have a US tourist visa to visit the US and a physical paper booklet passport. it takes several months to get one in most countries, so i would get started if i were you! good luck!
