I imagine Jesus being right there looking at the Evangelist with a perplexed look on his face saying to himself "oh my goodness, what in the world is this crap? these are MY followers?"

They are part pop psych, part bible, part motivational speaking, part anecdote,
Christianity really did evolve into a wierd thing.

Maybe it's because you listen to preachers who are prophetically described by Paul to Timothy in this passage.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, (4) and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

If you want to hear a great preacher then check out Paul Sheppard @ http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/enduring_truth

Isn't a good thing that the message of salvation is simple and clear regardless of who tries to preach. Whenever you listen, listen for speakers like Charles Stanley, Billy Graham. Humble men who serve.

Evangelists come and go, the ones true to the message continue to serve God, live exemplary lives and help many find the way to salvation, the false and shallow fade away.

You're on the mark! Christianity today is actually Paulism. They believe more in Paul than in Christ.

That is why they quote Paul more than Christ. Seldom do they read what Christ said because it is hard to follow what Christ said. Paul on the other hand is easy to follow who preaches believe, feel good and you're ok.

It is not that easy.

Christ only brought part of the greater truth. All religions are from God. See our site if you're interested.

keep in mind that not all folks who claim the name "christian" fill the requirements of being a true Christian.
many claim the name for their own earthly purposes.
if what you hear does not jive with God's Word, walk away and find a church where the Bible is taught.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 7: 21

Some people try to mix human philosophy with God's word, but I don't believe that they should do that. Human philosophy should never, and could never take the place of God's word the Bible. www.equip.org

They are either not evangelical preachers (preachers about the good news of Jesus) or you are not paying attention.

Your statement is correct in general. There are also good christian teachers, and most of them are poor.
