I have a puppy who has a bad habit of ripping up newspaper (we're trying to paper train him). So I was wondering if that sour apple spray that you can buy to stop them from chewing things will work on newspaper or not?

I've tried the pee pads as well and he tries to rip them too. I'm not having a problem with him knowing where to go, he will go to the bathroom on the newspaper. It's just that when he doesn't have to go he besides that he's going to rip up the newspaper instead.

sophylakes - I am crate training him and he isn't going to the bathroom in the house. He goes in the garage on the newspaper.

It didn't work with my dog, they actually like the taste of the sour apple. I had the best luck with the puppy pads with the adhesive on the back so that you could stick them to the floor.

no the sour apple spray does not work. i have a 7 month old pup and it was hard traning her. when she is bad put her in her crate. thats what we did and she deff got the point. and yell at her really stern and mean. u want to have a dog afraid of u when they are in trouble. u are the parent remeber. but then also remeber after u scold ur pet to love it after a few minutes. i did that and my dog is very well trained. she no longer needs her crate ever. she is also left unattened all day while i work and does not have any messes in the house and does not chew on anything but her toys. jus be stern and patient. it took me 5 months to get her this perfect. good luck! oh and remeber to NEVER HIT! no matter what!

Depends on how old your puppy is. Read the bottle and see what it says... There are other equipment to use besides newspaper.. Such as those potty pads that have a scent to them so the dogs pick it up and potty on it. Good luck!

Maybe. But you don't want him to get it in his eyes. Try hot sauce too(same caution)
