I'm praying for those of you who are responding with such skeptism about God. God loves you. Eventually all of us will have our day of judgement. How will God respond to the life you have lived? Even though you persecute me, I forgive you. I pray you will pick up a bible and read Revelations 20:11-15

1 Cor 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.

1 Cor 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Don’t let them bother you. Just keep preaching.

1 Cor 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

Sometimes we expect to reap a harvest when it is only planting season. Trust in the Lord that you are doing good even if you never see the harvest yourself.

Isa 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper [in the thing] whereto I sent it.

Gal 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

First off, your question likely isn't about GOD (that is, the TRUE deity), but about YHVH, the god of the Bible - there's a HUGE difference!!! As for the hateful responses, a lot of people despise YHVH for the same sort of reasons that the Jews hate Hitler - just read the Old Testament for a list of war crimes, torture, child slaughter, rape, and genocide ordered to be carried out by your god! There's so much blood and carnage, the Aztecs would be jealous if they knew... I pray that you, too, will pick up a Bible and read it through the eyes of the innocent victims of your god...

Persecution is, in my opinion, constant, belligerent antagonisation by the same people on a constant basis...like people who go out of their way to be mean to a certain group of people...in this case, Christians. It's not always athiests, I've been persecuted by people who claim to be Christians just because I don't agree with their doctrine when they don't see it's not about religion but about personal, induvidual relationship with God based on His word and doing his will because we want to, not because we have to.

Admittedly there are some comments wriiten for some of these answers that truly make my heart weep for these souls. Because something must've happened in the past to make them feel like there is no one out there who cares more for them than they could ever imagine.

Athiests, you wonder why there's so much suffering in the world and you think that's why there's no God? You don't want God? Well God doesn't go where He's not wanted, He's a gentleman...well, gentle God. He's not gonna barge into your life. But He loves you regardless of the fact that you believe that He doesn't exist.

I live my life as kind thoughtful person, not for what I will get in return (a trip to heaven maybe) but because I think in is the right thing to do. I am a devout Atheist. I don't need religion to have a moral compass. And believing any book (written god only knows) is the absolute truth is ludicrous.

To answer the title question, it's because so many people, both religious and nonreligious, see themselves as victims, and beleive that gives them the right to be hateful towards those who they see represent the group that has been persecuting them for so long.

However, upon reading the body text, I can kind of identify with the offensive people. No one likes having beleifs pushed on them. It's my choice if I will be judged, or if I read the book of Revalations.

Sometimes people need to try seeing several sides of the issue, rather than their side only.

I honestly do not understand why people get offended at a response of any kind! I'm always thankful when people take the time to respond from the heart. Where else in this politically correct world are you going to get straight up answers?

you pretty much just answered your own question. that attitude is why people get angry. Let me break it down for you.

1) god loves you is like telling someone 'ok, you don't believe in god, but it's ok that you are wrong... god still loves you'. That attitude is seen as offensive when people have other beliefs

2)you will all be judged is saying 'you are certainly going to get what is coming.. good thing I have the truth

3)how will god respond to the life you live? That is a) a guilt trip and b) once again implies that others who believe differently are once again wrong wrong wrong

4) and the whole persectuing and forgivemess thing sounds like a 'holier then thou' attitude.

5)praying that people will 'see the error of their ways' is judging

That is how you just answered your own question

Consider what you are saying.

You consider exercising our freedom of choice not to believe what you believe, hateful towards your religion. Yet you claim that God you believe in gave us that freedom of choice.

You accuse us of persecuting you because we do not share your belief.

You threaten us with your 'day of judgment' you believe that means we Atheists will end up being tortured terribly for eternity.

You then patronize us by forgiving us for what you imagine we have done, Even when your religion tells you that only your God has the power to forgive.

You insult us by offering to pray for us, knowing that we do not believe in such notions. Why not suggest we pick up a bible and read the passage you refer to, most Atheists I know have a copy or two of the bible for reference. We do not argue blindly and we are not book burners.

Why use this particular Bible text, which is the usual Christian threat of death to non believers, why not point us to something which shows the benefits of being a Christian. Do you think people respond well to continual threats?

In this one question you show a complete lack of respect, understanding and tolerance towards those ( non Christians are the majority of the worlds population ) who do not share your particular mind set.

And then you wonder why some people get a little annoyed about your attitude.

Many people have been extremely wounded by those who profess to believe in God, yet behave in predatory ways. It can sometimes take a life-time to process those wounds. Those who have experienced harm at the hands of the "godly" probably do not care about your "forgiveness" ... they are working on being able to separate the concept of God from the "godly" who victimized them!! Prayer is a good thing and I am not suggesting you stop praying for the dis-enfranchised of the world. Just be aware that those who may appear to have a problem with your God may have a good reason, at least for now.

Non believers and people of other religions don't like to have anyones religion jammed down their throats. It's offensive and disrespectful. The hatefulness is the direct result of attempted force.
