Sounds like you bought the dog from a bad breeder. It may not even be purebred and you'll never know, breeders can even lie on akc papers.

Many Maltese puppies have light tan/lemon ears and it's true that they will grow out as the puppy gets older. I have a 12 almost 13 week old AKC registered Maltese who I've had since he was 9 weeks. He has tan ears as well and just over these past few weeks I can already tell that the hair is starting to grow out lighter. So don't worry about it too much, if he is really fully breed Maltese his ears will change from that tan color to white.

I have not had a lot of experience with Maltese but I have not seen them with tan ears, the pups that I have seen are all white. Did you see the parents and did you get AKC registration papers for the pups? If you didn't the pup may not be a pure bred Maltese or it just could be a poorly bred Maltese.
If you were concerned about the color you should have researched before you bought the pup not after.

RELAX RELAX RELAX! i bought my pup 6 months ago. she was really dark, black on the ears and brown and tan all over and looked like a lil teddy bear. she is a maltese and a shih tzu mix. her fur never changed (the way it feels) i call it fluff. ALTHOUGH she is now 7 months old and full grown and guess what, even though she is only 50% maltese she is now an ALL white dog. so relax SHE WILL TURN WHITE! give it 4 or 5 months. trust me.

she's 8 weeks old!!! she won't get her adult hair till she's about a year old. hopefully it will grow out. i've never seen a purebred one that wasn't all white. so calm down. did you see the parents? were they all white? some maltese have some variations of color. and why did you take her if she wasn't up to your standard?
