The problem is hoarseness. Haven't been able to use higher notes like "kitty, kitty, kitty" for some years, only lower tones. Thyroid is normal.

I sure wish I knew what sort of "voice problem" you have. Normally, a speech pathologist treats voice disorders and will be up on the latest treatments. You can find one at your local hospital, or by visiting asha.org (American Speech Language Hearing Association).

I had severe hoarseness after a major asthma episode & was referred to Speech Therapy, it took a while but it did help along with time.
Most of all do NOT whisper it puts more of a strain on your vocal cords.

You might be able to find out from voice teachers (like for singers).
