Anti-depressants only give you more energy and generally puts you in a better mood. There is no set time that for how long people have depression. The medicine generally starts to work within a week.

It depends on what kind of depression you have. If you have seasonal affect disorder or situational depression then they will go away over time. Most other depressions do not go away that's why they suggest therapy and medication to treat it. With help you can live a long and happy life. You also need to know that taking the medication isn't a cure al for you sadness and problems. They will still be there and you will still have times where you feel the way you do, the medication just makes those times fewer and less. I have been on my antidepressent since 1991 when I was diagnosed. I fought it at first but once I worked with it I have not had a depressive episode since the 90s. It all lays on what you want to do, how you want to live your life, and how you feel about taking a pill to keep yourself happy. I hope the Citalogram works, if it doesn't there is also Celexa which is a great med as well.

Well, the first medication you are prescribed doesn't always work, and sometimes the wrong medication can even make things worse, which is why you should report back to your doctor on a regular basis. Also you might consider that depression is a common thing for people to experience. It can be a reaction to everyday stresses or sometimes more traumatic life events. So the fact that you feel fine one day and then depressed the next isn't at all strange.
Sometimes (Usually) the best remedy for depression is changes in lifestyle. I would go as far as saying, if your not willing to make lifestyle changes, don't bother getting on the meds. If you sleep normal hours of sleep, excercise more, drink less alcohol, don't do drugs, spend quality time with family and friends, make good life decisions, your mood will improve drasically. It won't be perfect, sometimes you'll get depressed. But that's just life. There's nothing wrong with getting depressed occasionally. The bitter makes the sweet, so much sweeter.

I have been suffering from post partum depression for the past one year when I gave birth to a baby boy. I couldn't stop thinking about how my husband loves him more than me and how things might be better if he wasn't born at all. Thus, I stayed away from him because I knew that I might do something I will regret for the rest of my life.

Almost instantly I went to a therapist and convince them that I need help. Among other things, I've tried herbal supplements and other book to treat depression but nothing works like the Depression Free Method. So now I'm proud to say I'm one of the happiest mother in the world. My husband loves us both very much and I thank the Lord for the blessing he gave us.

Depression Free Method?

This is a very tough question to answer. Depression is a disease that isn't easily understood or treated. And curing Depression depends on the patient and the type of/severity of their depression. Many doctors will experiment with different drugs to see what works best for the patient.

Many times, while on medication, the patient will experience moments of mania before regressing back into a more serious depression. Many doctors will keep their patient on a certain drug program for several months to get the body acclimated to the chemicals being introduced. If symptoms persist or get worse, then a new drug program will be tried.

Drugs alone can't combat depression however. You should ask your doctor what kind of activities, exercises, or programs you should consider to help you face your depression. Participating in such programs with other people that share your pain and experiences can help you and possibly lead to weaning off of your medication so you will no longer have to depend on medication to alleviate your depression.

It is hard to answer a question like this because everyone reacts differently. Keep talking to your doctor and be honest about how you feel. The medications will not cure your depression, but they will treat it. They will help you feel better, but you will still have emotions, and you may still have a bad day now and then. Sometimes a change in your dosage may be necessary, or you may need to change meds completely.

I have had depression most of my life (I am 33 now) and I have been treated with meds for about 10 years.

You need to give at least 4-6 weeks after trying a medication or changing the dose. If there is no difference, or if the depression keeps coming back, then talk to your doctor. Also, therapy might be an idea if just the meds aren't doing it.

Well, I'm no expert but I've gotten depressions since I was a teenager. I am now 39 and got started with depression medicine 6 years ago but I have narcolepsy and the wellbutrin is for that also. I guess this isn't very helpful but I thought I'd tell you my experience.

i take the same medicine, i've been on it now for about 3 years. i still have my moments when i get depressed and my doc automatically wanted to up my dose. i refused, so it takes a lot of more "self help". putting yourself in a positive surrounding, think positive thoughts, diet and exercise is also a very important part of helping you feel better.
good luck to you!
